Notifies proper authorities when late. G. Performs pre-trip inspections of bus before each operation for mechanical/safety defects. Notifies proper authority in case of mechanical failure. H. Picks up and discharges students only at regular stops (school or home stop) unless otherwise authorized. I. Exercises responsible leadership when on out-of-district school trips. Knows and follows District policy for activity runs. J. Transports authorized students only. K. Reports all accidents and completes required paperwork. L. Maintains daily log on District form of pupils transported on the bus. Hands completed log form to the Transportation Supervisor at the end of each week. Completes bus log report and pre-trip inspections report. M. Completes other forms as required, including but not limited to: worksheets for computing bus charges for extra runs; monthly reports on bus condition and repair recommendations, certificates of bus evacuation drills, etc. N. Knows and follows District policies and rules governing personnel safety and safety of students. The safety of students being transported is our primary concern. O. Attends New Driver Training (40 hours); Refresher Training (6 hours); First Aid/CPR Training; and all other training required by the District for Bus Drivers. P. Maintains high standards of ethical behavior and confidentiality. VI. OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: A. Performs all other duties as assigned. VII. ADDITIONAL ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES FOR SPECIAL EDUCATION SUBSTITUTE BUS DRIVERS: A. The staff member manages logistics like attendance and family communication. This role can include playing games along the way, getting to know the students and making sure everyone arrvies to school and home safely each day. Shifts are typially 1.5-2 hours in length which includes the walk as well as prep and wrap-up time. Shifts are ever weekday before and after school. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: * Ensures the safety of each passenger while on the walking bus in accordance with board policies and rules. * Assesses incidents, complaints, accidents and/or potential emergency situations (e.g. road hazards, medical emergencies, accidents, etc.) for the purpose of resolving and/or recommending a resolution to the situation. * Establishing and maintaining rapport with passengers. * Maintain discipline among passengers. * Maintain effective contact with the public. * Satisfactorily complete required training and first aid programs. * Submit to random drug and alcohol testing, state law. * Other duties as assigned.
