Physical and drug screening required. Pay: Starting pay is $21.30 per hour with the guarantee of 4 hours per day for drivers who are assigned 2 routes. We have morning and afternoon routes each school day. There are also opportunities for extra pay (paid at the same hourly rate) for driving classes and sports teams to activities/events. We pay for a single health insurance plan for drivers that drive two routes per day. Reports to: Director of Support Services/Fleet Coordinator/ Assistant Transportation Director Purpose and Objectives of the Position: The Bus Driver provides clean, safe, and reliable transportation to ensure students enjoy the full advantage of district programs and activities. To accomplish these tasks the Bus Driver must work closely with the staff and administration of the district. I. Essential Job Functions: ♦ Ability to provide clean, safe, and reliable transportation to ensure students benefit from district programs and activities. ♦ Ability to ensure all activities conform to state school transportation guidelines. ♦ Ability to communicate and work effectively and cooperatively with members of the school district and the community. ♦ Ability to react to change and frequent interruptions in a productive and positive manner, meeting deadlines as assigned. ♦ Ability to operate all vehicles and equipment as necessary. ♦ Ability to implement and follow the vision and mission of the district. II. Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions: ♦ Requires prolonged sitting. ♦ Requires turning and reaching. ♦ Requires driving skills, including ability to operate vehicle at night. ♦ Must work indoor and outdoors during the school year. ♦ Must be able to lift the hood of the bus (approximately 50 pounds). ♦ Must work in noisy, crowded, stressful environments, with numerous interruptions. ♦ Must work in and around dust, fumes, and odors. III. General Responsibilities: ♦ Ability to implement and follow all transportation regulations including current First Aid, CPR and Defensive Driving Certification. ♦ Ability to implement all mandatory safety regulations for school buses. ♦ Ability to maintain discipline when students are on the bus. ♦ Ability to report those students who do not obey rules to the proper authority. ♦ Ability to keep assigned bus clean. ♦ Ability to drive assigned route schedule. ♦ Ability to check bus before each operation for mechanical defects. ♦ Ability to notify the proper authority in case of mechanical failure or lateness. ♦ Ability to discharge students only at authorized stops. ♦ Ability to exercise responsible leadership and good judgment when on out-of-district school trips. ♦ Transport only authorized students. ♦ Ability to report all accidents and complete required reports. ♦ Ability to enforce regulations against smoking, drinking and eating on the bus. ♦ Ability to respond to information requests in a cooperative, courteous, and timely manner. ♦ Ability to attend all in-service meetings as required. ♦ Ability to perform other tasks and assume other responsibilities as directed by the Director of Support Services, Fleet Coordinator and the Assistant Transportation Director.
