About the Role Reporting to the Director of Transportation as well as school-based administration, the School Bus Operator responsible for transporting students safely and ensuring the vehicle is in clean, safe operating condition at all times while abiding by federal, state, local, and district procedures, policies, and regulations. School Bus Operators will be full time employees of CANO and eligible for benefits. Essential Job Duties * Inspecting the bus before and after each route; maintaining a clean and mechanically-sound bus at all times * Transporting children to and from school in the mornings and afternoons, stopping at all stops on the route and reporting any delays or deviations in schedule to the transportation office. * Being attentive to traffic and weather conditions while staying on schedule and ensuring the safety of passengers. * Obeying all traffic laws and policies related to bus safety & operations * Establishing high expectations for each student and supporting their academic, social, and emotional development * Maintaining a safe environment on the bus by enforcing rules of conduct and responding to emergencies. * Reporting any unsafe environment to supervisors immediately. * Tracking of the number of students transported, reporting to the supervisor daily. * Attending bus safety meetings. * Participating in the life of the school, including student activities and events. * CANO School Bus Operators will have designated responsibilities assigned within their school. Responsibilities may include supervising student lunch, supervising student recess, supporting classroom and front office activities. * Embodying, advocating, and operationalizing the mission, vision, and direction of the school. * Taking on other tasks, as needed. Required Qualifications * Must be over 25 or have at least three years of school bus driving experience * Must possess a valid CDL license with a school bus endorsement (Class B) * Must possess or obtain a valid City of New Orleans Driver Permit * * Desirable Qualifications: * 3+ years school bus driving experience Working Conditions & Physical Demands * Frequently exposed to loud noise levels, fumes or airborne particles, noxious odors, vibrations from driving a bus, and traffic * Occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside inclement weather conditions * Frequently required to sit for extended periods; use hands and fingers to handle, control or feel; use foot controls to drive; reach with hands and arms; climb and descend stairs with a maximum height of 17 ½ inches; bend, stoop, and kneel; and talk or hear * Physically able to perform and demonstrate emergency evacuation procedures. This includes the pushing/pulling of up to 50 pounds, operating two-hand controls simultaneously and quickly in an emergency, carrying or dragging a person up to 125 pounds 30 feet in 30 seconds or less, and exiting from an emergency door opening of 24 by 48 inches at least 42 inches from the ground in 10 seconds. Must be physically able to open all emergency exits installed in any school bus they may be assigned. * This job's specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, night/dusk vision, color vision, and peripheral vision * Specific hearing abilities include hearing sufficient to be aware of traffic or road distractions and conditions, and must be able to hear and listen to children. Always signs out and maintains assigned van and equipment (wheelchair, radio, oxygen tank with regulator) in clean and efficient working order. 4. Operates the van according with departmental policies, traffic ordinances, and in a manner where safety of the client and Van Operator in the van is of prime importance. 5. The Van Operator must be able to safely and properly operate wheelchair lift on van. The Van Operator is only authorized to assist clients through the movement of wheelchair into position, where the client, or client's family or personal attendant, will be responsible for helping the client into and out of the wheelchair. Manual and finger dexterity is necessary to reach for, handle, and move equipment. Talking and hearing ability is necessary to interact and communicate with dispatchers on the radio, clients on the bus, and others as appropriate during the work day. Visual activity is required for observation of the client, inspection of the scene, and to safely drive the van. At no time is it the role, responsibility, or duty of the Van Operator to physically lift or move the client into or out the wheelchair.     Full-time Description As transportation driver/custodian, this position plays a critical role. The transportation driver/custodian, under the direction of the COO or designee, will transport patients to and from appointments at Southeast Community Health Systems, ensuring all safety measures and precautions are followed; and custodial duties as outlined in the job description. Perform general checks of interior/external of van daily to make sure that all is in good working order Collaborate with COO or designee to meet Southeast Community Health Systems' transportation program goals and objectives Collaborate with Patient Support Specialists and Care Managers to maximize the transportation schedule daily Map out route with the least amount of traffic and mileage Ensure attendance at the place of pickup in a timely and efficient manner Assist passengers in embarking on and off the van Drive van to the destination by following traffic rules and regulations Schedule van maintenance according to manufacturer's guidelines Perform general maintenance duties Other reasonable duties as assigned Requirements Education: High School Diploma or GED Certificate required Driving Requirements: Employee must have a Chauffeur's License issued by the State of Louisiana. Driver must maintain clean motor vehicle record. Computer Skills: Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint). Other Skill Requirements: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. May be required to solve mathematical computations and create miscellaneous drawings and schematics. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit behind the wheel of a vehicle. The employee is occasionally required to embark and disembark the vehicle. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision and depth perception. Salary Description $17 - $22/hour
