Check gas, battery, oil, and water before departure. Check vehicle for operating safety. Assist disabled students and others out of and into vehicles. Demonstrate knowledge of assigned routes and stops by actually driving the route and noting stops before the first day of service without students aboard. Adhere to safety rules when loading and unloading pupils. Prepare simple reports and keep logs of trips. Conduct a pre-trip and post trip safety inspection of the van prior to every trip and complete the daily van log. Notify Director of Facilities or Facilities Manager of any mechanical malfunctions and/or safety hazards. Adhere to established routes, designated van stops and keep to assigned time schedule. POSITION OVERVIEW Under the direction of the Transportation Management Team, the School Bus Driver is responsible for safely operating the school bus according to a set daily schedule. The Driver must ensure that the school bus is in good operating condition at all times, pick up and drop off students as per the schedule, maintain order and security on the bus and adhere to all laws, regulations, and rules of conduct. The Driver must also interact with BGCGSD members, parents, staff, and members of the public in a courteous and respectful manner. SCHOOL BUS OPERATION Transport children, parents, and staff by driving a school bus or passenger van to and from school, and to and from special outings or field trips while adhering to driving rules and regulations for providing a safe vehicle in the State of California. Maintain safety of BGCGSD fleet of vehicles by observing visual defects and checking operations systems routinely. Maintain good communications with the Clubs administration; checking in with the transportation Coordinator daily. Serve as a positive role model and example for BGCGSD members through appropriate dress, speech, attitude, and courtesies. Maintain consistent, punctual, and regular attendance. Transport Clubs members by picking them up at assigned stops; instructing when it is safe to board the vehicle; take attendance; establish loading and unloading procedures, and the importance of adhering to all safety rules. The Driver must also interact with BGCGSD members, parents, staff, and members of the public in a professional manner. This includes receiving complaints about schedules and levels and quality of service. The Driver must make note of and report any such complaints and respond in a courteous and respectful manner. 2. SAFETY Be aware of current safety protocols that are being adhered to: adults and children are wearing face coverings, social distancing, frequent hand washing, etc. Enforce transportation seating guidelines outlined by BGCGSD and the State of California, ensuring adequate spacing between passengers. (depending on the current guidelines) Conduct daily health, wellness checks & temperature screenings on all members as outlined in current guidelines. Be adamant about safe conditions while traveling by enforcing safety and discipline rules and following all vehicle and driving laws as outlined by BGCGSD and the State of California. Implement emergency plan in the event of an accident; appropriately administer to the needs of the members on-board, administer first-aid, and complete accident report and documentation. Actively continue to complete annual classroom and behind-the-wheel bus driver instruction to meet all California state licensing requirements for valid CA School Bus Driver Certificates. 3. MAINTENANCE Complete daily all pre-and post-inspections for safety and security by documenting in BGCGSD vehicle logs prior to locking the vehicle and completing daily shift. Assist with transporting vehicles for regularly scheduled maintenance as requested by the Transportation Coordinator. Cleans assigned vehicles, both interior and exterior for the purpose of ensuring safety, appearance, and sanitation of the vehicle. Maintains fluid levels (oil, water, and fuel), check tire pressure, and signs of body damage. Advise the Transportation Coordinator of any requirements for maintenance or repairs. 4. SAFETY & WELLNESS Ensure a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for all youth, staff, and visitors by consistently enforcing safety protocols and organizational policies. Be proactive in identifying and reporting any safety concerns or maintenance requirements to ensure a safe working environment for everyone. Come join our team! As a school bus monitor, you will assist the driver with the safe management of students onboard the vehicle. This may include assisting students as they enter and exit the vehicle, performing safety checks, leading emergency evacuations, and communicating behavior issues with parents and management, among other duties. Job Type: Part-Time Schedule: Monday-Friday Location: Escondido Hours: Split Shift Pay Range: Responsibilities: Monitor all passengers to ensure safety is always maintained on the bus. Assist students in entering and exiting the bus. Perform safety checks on the bus to ensure the safety of all students. Know the routes and remains alert to monitor the welfare of passengers while in route. Check the bus for sleeping children. Assist driver to safely direct the vehicle in backing safely, when necessary. Conduct emergency evacuation from the bus, including us of exiting by emergency door. Ability to open and close service doors and move up and down steps multiple times a day. Communicate behavior problems and conditions of various bus stops with the driver. Liaise with parents on an as-needed basis. Assist with maintaining cleanliness of assigned bus. Occasionally attend field trips and special events to ensure passenger safety.
