Follow assigned route and adhere to established schedules. 2. Drive bus to and from extracurricular activities. 3. Check bus for mechanical defects before and after each operation, completing pre- and post-route inspection(s) and notify mechanics of needed repairs via work order(s). 4. Report all accidents, vehicle damage, student injuries, and mechanical failures. Complete required reports. 5. Keep records on bus mileage, gas and oil consumption, and number of passengers transported. 6. Keep assigned bus (regular or spare) clean and fueled. 7. Supervise students while they board and leave the bus and cross the street. 8. Communicate with teachers and parents on a daily basis regarding student behavior while on the bus. 9. Maintain discipline. Report student discipline problems to transportation administration via student safety reports. 10. Instruct students on safe riding rules and regulations. 11. Maintain accurate seating charts and student rider rosters. 12. Observe all traffic laws and safety regulations for school buses. 13. Inspect bus by checking fuel, oil, water, tires, lights, brakes, and steering to ensure bus can be operated safely before driving. 14. Ensure proper condition of emergency equipment, such as first aid kit, fire extinguisher, flags, fuses, and reflector. 15. Correct unsafe conditions in work area that could cause an accident and inform supervisor of any conditions that are not correctable immediately. 16. Report any hazardous conditions along the route. 17. Operate cell phone and/or two-way radio equipment to communicate with transportation office only when bus is completely stopped and pulled over off of the roadway. 18. Work irregular hours as needed. 19. Attend and complete required training program to maintain safety certification, including CPR/First Aid. 20. The Transportation Department may assign driver a spare bus, rather than the regularly assigned bus, at their discretion when necessary to ensure proper management of the entire transportation system. 21. QUALIFICATIONS: The Driver Trainee position is subject to the following limitations: Trainee must complete training and be prepared for skills test within 20 business days from first training session. Trainee will be permitted a maximum of two (2) attempts to successful pass each of the three required skills tests: Vehicle Inspection, Basic Control, and Road Test. Skills testing will be conducted either by the Texas Department of Public Safety or by Spring ISD through the Texas Department of Public Safety Third Party Skills Testing program.
