The SchoolBusDriver drives a schoolbus to transport children between home and school and/or on field trips and performs daily inspection and cleaning of assigned vehicles. Hours worked vary depending upon the assigned route and routes are subject to change three times each year.
Requirements / Qualifications
Requires current licensing as a schoolbusdriver. Candidates must attach the required documents to their employment application. Prior to being eligible for employment, applicants must register with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration's (FMCSA) Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse. As of January 6, 2020, this clearinghouse will be used to obtain drug and alcohol program violations for commercial driver's license holders prior to employment.
Required Documents (must be valid, not expired):
1) California Commercial Driver License, Class A or B, with P and S endorsements, with Restriction 29, and without Restriction 48.
2) California Special Driver Certificate, valid for schoolbus operation, and must not have Restrictions 2, 3, 4, and 5. If Restriction 6 is indicated, must present a First Aid Card from an approved provider list (obtain list from SDUHSD Human Resources Department).
3) Medical Examiner's Certificate with a valid date.
4) DMV Printout - CaliforniaDriver's Record Report - must be dated within 30 days of application. Can be obtained at: **************************************************************************************************************

Assist disabled students and others out of and into vehicles.

Adhere to safety rules when loading and unloading pupils.
Prepare simple reports and keep logs of trips.

POSITION OVERVIEW
Under the direction of the Transportation Management Team, the SchoolBusDriver is responsible for safely operating the schoolbus according to a set daily schedule. The Driver must ensure that the schoolbus is in good operating condition at all times, pick up and drop off students as per the schedule, maintain order and security on the bus and adhere to all laws, regulations, and rules of conduct. The Driver must also interact with BGCGSD members, parents, staff, and members of the public in a courteous and respectful manner. This includes receiving complaints about schedules and levels and quality of service. The Driver must make note of and report any such complaints and respond in a courteous and respectful manner.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Function Name/Tasks
1. SCHOOLBUS OPERATION
Transport children, parents, and staff by driving a schoolbus or passenger van to and from school, and to and from special outings or field trips while adhering to driving rules and regulations for providing a safe vehicle in the State of California.
Maintain safety of BGCGSD fleet of vehicles by observing visual defects and checking operations systems routinely.
Maintain good communications with the Clubs administration; checking in with the transportation Coordinator daily.
Serve as a positive role model and example for BGCGSD members through appropriate dress, speech, attitude, and courtesies. Maintain consistent, punctual, and regular attendance.
Transport Clubs members by picking them up at assigned stops; instructing when it is safe to board the vehicle; take attendance; establish loading and unloading procedures, and the importance of adhering to all safety rules.
The Driver must also interact with BGCGSD members, parents, staff, and members of the public in a professional manner. This includes receiving complaints about schedules and levels and quality of service.
The Driver must make note of and report any such complaints and respond in a courteous and respectful manner.
2. SAFETY
Be aware of current safety protocols that are being adhered to: adults and children are wearing face coverings, social distancing, frequent hand washing, etc.
Enforce transportation seating guidelines outlined by BGCGSD and the State of California, ensuring adequate spacing between passengers. (depending on the current guidelines)
Conduct daily health, wellness checks & temperature screenings on all members as outlined in current guidelines.
Be adamant about safe conditions while traveling by enforcing safety and discipline rules and following all vehicle and driving laws as outlined by BGCGSD and the State of California.
Implement emergency plan in the event of an accident; appropriately administer to the needs of the members on-board, administer first-aid, and complete accident report and documentation.
Actively continue to complete annual classroom and behind-the-wheel busdriver instruction to meet all California state licensing requirements for valid CASchoolBusDriver Certificates.
3. MAINTENANCE

Conducts routine safety inspections of company owned vehicles before and after every trip, communicating any mechanical difficulties, problems, or maintenance needs to management.
Inspects vehicles prior to occupancy, verifying that everything is clean, well-stocked and in good working order.
Maintains written records of all trips, number of passengers, departure and arrival times, and destinations. Held accountable for the accuracy and thoroughness of departmental records and reports.
Maintains a working knowledge of company facilities, as well as special events on property, to advise guests and fellow Team Members of same, whenever possible.

Required Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED equivalent.

Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
