Assist with loading and unloading of students; utilize wheelchair lift, as necessary. Assist students in wheelchairs by loading and securing chairs before departure and assuring students are safely fastened into their seats; secure seatbelts, harnesses, tie downs and various adaptive and assistive devices; restrain physically active or aggressive students as needed.
Monitor student behavior: provide assistance to meet the special needs of students; maintain order and discipline among students in accordance with District policies and procedures; assure student understanding of proper bus behavior and emergency procedures.
Determine appropriate action in potential or real medical emergency situation according to established guidelines; administer first aid to passengers as needed.
Communicate with teachers, staff, and parents concerning student needs, issues, and concerns.
Clean up after students as needed.
Maintain routine records related to student behavior and assigned activities.
Perform related duties as assigned.

This is a ten (10) month position with salary and contract terms to be negotiated with the Superintendent and the Board of Education.

Prior to the vehicle moving, the aide will check to see that all clients are wearing their seat belts

4. Upon greeting clients, check their physical condition and inform the sending facility of any obvious
injury or problem.
Check to see that clients are properly dressed. Observe if they are wearing shoes, jackets in the winter etc., make sure clients leave the vehicle in the same manner as they boarded.
6. Observe the condition of clients during transport and report any unusual developments to the driver
and facility staff.
Take measures to preserve and restore calm on the vehicle in cases where clients may be acting out.
8. Never leave clients unattended. Make sure that at least one staff member (driver or aide) is present
in the vehicle as long as there are clients on board.
In case of emergency notify dispatch immediately to receive instructions.
File an incident report when a reportable incident warrants.
Check to see that no personal belongings of the client are left on the vehicle.
Be courteous and respectful to all clients, fellow staff members, and personnel at the facilities.
All aides should report for work in uniform (black or navy blue pants and uniform shirts).
Keep vehicle clean inside and outside, including the windows.
Check vehicle before leaving the base to be sure the proper tie downs and harnesses are on board.
Always maintain a professional image and attitude.

Qualifications: 1. High School Diploma preferred 2. Must work well with children 3. Must be of good moral character 4. Possess the ability to read, write and communicate in English 5. Be in good physical health and ability to perform tasks contained herein
6. Provide evidence that a criminal record history check has been conducted and clearance has been given by the Department of Education, in accordance with 18A:6-7.1.
7. Provide information that includes current/former employers within the last twenty (20) years in which the employment involved direct contact with children; a written authorization that consents to current and former employers disclosing certain information; and a written statement as to whether the applicant has any employment history regarding child abuse and/or sexual misconduct in accordance with N.J.S.A.18A:6-7.6.
8. Provide evidence that health is adequate to fulfill the job functions and responsibilities with reasonable accommodation pursuant to 42 U.S.C. 12101 and in accordance with N.J.A.C. 6:3-4A.4.
9. Pass the State required Mantoux Intradermal Tuberculin Test as required by N.J.A.C. 6:3-4A.4.

None Job Goal: To maintain a safe environment for students on the schoolbus. Performance Responsibilities:
Overall Responsibilities
1. Maintains control of the students at all times to ensure their safety while on the bus.
2. Reports any discipline issues immediately to the Transportation Supervisor.
3. Immediately reports any issues or concerns to the Transportation Supervisor.
4. Fulfills all requirements by the County Superintendent for SchoolBus Aides.
5. Checks the bus after each run, both at the school and after the last stop to sure that no materials or students are left on the bus.
6. Completes all training assigned by the Transportation Supervisor in accordance with the Policies of the Board of Education and New Jersey Guidelines of Pupil Transportation. WEST DEPTFORD TOWNSHIP SCHOOL DISTRICT Bus Aide 2 | P a g e
7. Assists the BusDriver with student safety measures and performs tasks assigned by the BusDriver.
8. Performs all other tasks or duties assigned by Transportation Supervisor in accordance with the Policies of the Board of Education.
