Title: BusDriver Trainee

SUMMARY OF ASSIGNMENT:
Under the instruction of the Director of Transportation or his/her designee, this trainee will acquire training through a 6-week course (up to 6 weeks or 240 hours - maximum) to become a substitute busdriver. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
Possess a valid Washington State driver's license and 5 years of driving experience.
Requires high school diploma or GED.
Acceptable driving record as defined in WAC 392-144-103 (2)(3). Driving record free of all major violations such as DWI or negligent driving, with a limited number of minor violations.
Physically able to perform daily, routine schoolbus vehicle safety inspections; necessary emergency road services; use all hand and/or foot-operated controls and equipment found on state minimum specified schoolbuses and maneuver and control a schoolbus under all driving conditions.
Possess sufficient strength and agility to move about in a schoolbus as required to provide assistance to students as they enter or exit a schoolbus through passenger service door or while evacuating the bus during an emergency. Have no physical limitations which would prevent satisfactory performance of job duties.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Ability to use fingers, hands and arms, sit for prolonged periods of time. Ability to bend, stretch, twist, walk, reach and perform recurring physical activity requiring ordinary strength. Ability to hear and see, to perform duties of driving bus. Exposures include traffic, inclement weather at times, cold, heat dust, fumes possible infectious diseases. Constant exposure to moderate level of noise that does not require hearing protection and occasional disruptive behavior of students. Required to operate hand and foot controls. Able to lift up to fifty (50) pounds in difficult working positions. Exposure to vibration of moving vehicle while in a sitting position. Constant mental and visual attention required.

Rules for students riding Toledo Schoolbuses.
Each driver will:
Be able to proficiently operate all sizes and types of schoolbuses in the Toledo School District.
Operate the schoolbus in a safe and prudent manner.
Establish and maintain effective relationships with students, district staff, parents and community members.
BUSDRIVER SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Operate assigned schoolbus in a safe and legal manner consistent with district, state, county and federal regulations.
Inspect the assigned schoolbus daily prior to each operation in accordance with state and district regulations and expectations.
Maintain discipline on the bus consistent with district policies, regulations and procedures.
Support the learning program and contribute to the growth and development of students through maintenance of positive interpersonal relationships.
Maintain and submit daily bus logs, and complete all forms and other reports as required.
Report any mechanical defects and safety hazards immediately.
Clean interior and exterior of vehicle according to department procedures and perform other such maintenance requirements as department procedure requires.
Operate and maintain district vehicles and equipment as required; consequently insuring their safe and proper use, protecting the interest of the district regarding pilferage, loss, theft or abuse of all district vehicles, equipment and materials.
Maintain appropriate physical condition, health status, appearance and attitude necessary to perform duties and responsibilities.
Obtain and maintain all licenses and certificates necessary to accomplish assigned duties and responsibilities.
Comply with district safety rules and regulations
Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor
Must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum of 5 years driving experience.
Possess a valid Washington State driver's license with CDL endorsement
Possess a valid Washington State schoolbusdriver's endorsement
Meet the physical and mental standards necessary to perform the duties, tasks and responsibilities of a schoolbusdriver as described in this job description.

Sufficient strength and agility to assist ill or physically impaired students to enter or exit a schoolbus through the passenger service door, and provide necessary assistance in an emergency situation and/or evacuation.
Ability to complete state certified training program, provided by the district.

What you will do:
Transporting and escorting residents to/from medical appointments, activities, outings, and general errands

Help out on the floor as a Hospitality Assistant in between driving responsibilities

ABOUT CHIEF LESCHI SCHOOLS: Formerly known as the Puyallup Tribal School, Chief Leschi Schools was founded in 1976 to address the high dropout rate of the youth of the Puyallup tribe. It is the largest of seven tribal schools in the state of Washington and one of approximately 200+ tribal schools in the United States. It is also one of the largest tribal schools to be funded by the Bureau of Indian Education.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

* Operates schoolbuses under all types of weather conditions including but not limited to fog, rain, hail, sleet, snow and ice.
* Services, inspects and cleans schoolbuses and related equipment and accessories as required by state, federal, and school policies, to include interior and exterior sweeping and washing, installation of fuel, oil, and coolant, and tire inflation.
* Maintains control of student passenger safety.
* Reports unsafe acts or conditions which require the attention of any person other than the driver.
* Completes forms, records and reports as required by law and school policies.
* Maintains coursework and a driver's training program as set forth by the State Superintendent of Public Instruction and the school.
* Operates schoolbus in accordance with the laws of the State of Washington and policies promulgated by the Superintendent of Public Instruction.
* Operates and services all schoolbus equipment and accessories, including but not limited to fire extinguishers, highway warning kits, first aid kits, and manually operated doors.
* Performs basic first aid as appropriate, which may include cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
* Performs other duties as assigned.
