Performs pre-trip and post-trip inspections (e.g. fluid levels, tire pressure, exterior condition, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the safe operating condition of the vehicle and complying with mandated guidelines. Maintains and keeps log book or Electronic Logging Device accurate and complete for CHP inspection. Reports defects or maintenance problems with vehicle to supervisor. Establish and ensure a safe environment for student-athletes or other passengers. Understand and agree to abide by the mission of CBU and the CBU Athletics Department. Possess a valid California Class “B” driver's license with a passenger endorsement, medical card (physical), and a clean DMV record.

This is the first of two entry-level classes in the series. Positions are responsible for meeting basic physical care needs of students at a school for the deaf. Under general supervision, incumbents supervise and provide surveillance over a group of students in a dormitory setting just before, during, and just after sleeping periods. Incumbents also assist students needing help with medical problems, sleeplessness, emotional distress, behavioral problems, etc.; provide quiet leisure activities for students who are awake; and record anecdotal and numerical information. Incumbents may assist students with early morning preparations for school, supervise the dining rooms, monitor student performance of housekeeping tasks, keep routine records, prepare materials, or perform tasks which assist other staff with school activities and programs. BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the general supervision of immediate supervisor, operates school bus over designated routes in transporting school children. Performs related duties as required/assigned.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
* Operates a bus on assigned route in accordance with established time schedules in a safe and efficient manner.
* Picks up and discharges students.
* Escorts students across streets, stopping traffic if necessary.
* Transports teachers and students on field trips to various locations.
* Assists students into and out of bus when necessary.
* Loads and unloads wheelchairs and other accompanying student gear, as appropriate.
* Assures that wheelchairs and students are secure while bus is moving, as needed.
* Assists in maintaining good order among students on the busses and waiting at the bus stop.
* Follows established policies regarding student discipline and parent contact.
* Provides door-to-door service as required.
* Provides courier service to transport records or other materials.
* Cleans assigned vehicle inside and out.
* Reports any mechanical defects in vehicles to immediate supervisor.
* Performs other duties as assigned.
