The School Bus Driver drives a school bus to transport children between home and school and/or on field trips and performs daily inspection and cleaning of assigned vehicles. Hours worked vary depending upon the assigned route and routes are subject to change three times each year.
Requirements / Qualifications
Requires current licensing as a school bus driver. Candidates must attach the required documents to their employment application. Prior to being eligible for employment, applicants must register with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration's (FMCSA) Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse. As of January 6, 2020, this clearinghouse will be used to obtain drug and alcohol program violations for commercial driver's license holders prior to employment.

Responsibilities:
Monitor all passengers to ensure safety is always maintained on the bus.
Assist students in entering and exiting the bus.
Perform safety checks on the bus to ensure the safety of all students.
Know the routes and remains alert to monitor the welfare of passengers while in route.
Check the bus for sleeping children.
Assist driver to safely direct the vehicle in backing safely, when necessary.
Conduct emergency evacuation from the bus, including us of exiting by emergency door.
Ability to open and close service doors and move up and down steps multiple times a day.
Communicate behavior problems and conditions of various bus stops with the driver.
Liaise with parents on an as-needed basis.
Assist with maintaining cleanliness of assigned bus.
Occasionally attend field trips and special events to ensure passenger safety.

Job Summary
Substitute School Bus Drivers drive a school bus to transport children between home and school and/or on field trips and perform daily inspection and cleaning of assigned vehicles. Typical assignments are 5.5 or 6 hours per day.
Requirements / Qualifications
Requires current licensing as a school bus driver. Candidates must attach the required documents to their employment application. Prior to being eligible for employment, applicants must register with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration's (FMCSA) Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse. As of January 6, 2020, this clearinghouse will be used to obtain drug and alcohol program violations for commercial driver's license holders prior to employment.
Required Documents (must be valid, not expired): 1) California Commercial Driver License, Class A or B, with P and S endorsements, with Restriction 29, and without Restriction 48. 2) California Special Driver Certificate, valid for school bus operation, and must not have Restrictions 2, 3, 4, and 5. If Restriction 6 is indicated, must present a First Aid Card from an approved provider list (obtain list from SDUHSD Human Resources Department). 3) Medical Examiner's Certificate with a valid date. 4) DMV Printout - California Driver's Record Report - must be dated within 30 days of application.
