Job Summary:

Education and Experience:

Satisfactorily complete the state school bus driver training course and receive a School Bus Driver's Certificate that will entitle the holder to operate a state owned school bus in the state of South Carolina for a period of one (1) year. The driver must complete 10 hours of module training each year to receive a new certificate.
Bus Drivers are required to take the School Bus Driver Physical Performance Test (PPT). The certification of ALL new school bus drivers will include PPT in conjunction with the behind-the-wheel training and testing.
Existing licensed/certified school bus drivers will be required to pass the PPT when they renew their CDL license (once every five years) and as a part of their interim behind-the-wheel assessment (occurring during the third year of license certification).

The Parks and Recreation Department is seeking a pool of bus drivers to safely operate an activity bus, transporting patrons to and from a variety of events and programs. These positions are part of a shared driver team covering a total of approximately 30 hours per week, with individual schedules varying based on program needs and driver availability. Work is performed under the supervision of recreation programming staff and evaluated through direct observation and patron feedback.
This is a part-time role with the driver pool collectively covering about 30 hours per week. Shifts may include mornings, afternoons, evenings, and weekends.
Examples of Duties
Safe Transportation:
* Operate bus on assigned routes and schedules, adhering to traffic laws and DOT bus passenger regulations
* Ensure the safety of all passengers during loading, unloading, and transit
* Adhere to regular service schedule for bus
* Perform pre-and post-trip inspections of the bus to ensure it is in safe operating condition
* Clean bus (i.e. sweeping, washing front and back windows, etc.)
* Keeps alert for mechanical or other equipment problems requiring attention; report needs; reports about traffic hazards, accidents and other conditions requiring attention.
Passenger Supervision and Discipline:
* Maintain order and discipline on the bus, enforcing City policies and procedures
* Supervise and assist passengers on and off the bus as needed, including passengers with disabilities
* Transport passengers to and from activities and events
* Discharge passengers at authorized stops only
* Ensure passenger safety
* Check bus for lost items and reports same.
Record Keeping and Communication:

* Drives an activity bus on shuttle runs or on day or overnight trips.

* Follows and implements standard operating policies and procedures for recreational facilities.

Typical Qualifications

* A minimum of 12 months of driving experience.?
