JOB TITLE: Van Driver
REPORTS TO: Area Director
PROFILE:
As with other positions within this ministry, the Van Driver is known for their strong Christian character.

PRIMARY FUNCTION:
The primary function of the Van Driver is to transport students to and from Mentoring Alliance sites safely.
SCOPE/ CLASSIFICATION / EXEMPT STATUS:
This position is a class 10 position. It is temporary, part-time and nonexempt averaging 0-5 hours per
week.

2. Transports Students:
Transports students to and from Mentoring Alliance Sites and schools, following preplanned routes according to a defined time schedule.
Drives van/shuttle carefully and in compliance with policies and with traffic regulations.
Regulates heating/air equipment and ventilation of van/shuttle for comfort of passengers.
3. Van/Shuttle Safety & Compliance:
Logs and checks in each student on attendance sheet and hands over to leadership staff
daily. Assumes responsibility for the safety of Mentoring Alliance students in loading, unloading
and transporting them to Mentoring Alliance sites. Instructs students in safety precautions and practices.
Directs students in crossing streets and highways and assures that they are safely across
upon departure from the bus.
Reports delays and accidents to the Area Director or Operations Staff.
4. Van/Shuttle Maintenance:
Inspects and sweeps van/shuttle on a regular basis.
Checks water, gas, oil and mechanical condition before leaving on route.
Keeps operational records.
Reports van/shuttle defects and problems to the Area Director or Operations Staff.
Assures van/shuttle meets regular maintenance schedules.
5. Student Supervision and Relationship Building
Maintains discipline and reports unruly behavior to the Site Director or Area Director.
Builds positive relationships with students, Mentoring Alliance staff and School District
staff at designated school pick up areas.
6. Other Duties as Assigned by the Executive Director
Serves on appropriate committees, attends staff meetings, board meetings, and other
staff functions.
Strengthens teamwork, collaboration, alignment, morale, transparency, credibility, and
trust throughout the ministry.
Fulfills necessary tasks, projects or roles as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High School Diploma or GED preferred
Must be 21 years of age or older
Knowledge of traffic and highway safety rules, regulations, and precautions necessary to
avoid accidents
Clear driving record required and must pass MVR
Experienced in operating a van/shuttle in a safe and economical manner
Ability to understand and carry out instructions and to perform work requiring good
physical condition
Must pass drug screening

The Transportation Driver is responsible for transporting patients and/or equipment to and from various outside appointments, clinics, nursing facilities, hospitals, or other ancillary locations via hospital-owned vehicle. This position must integrate company values into daily practice.
This is a PRN position.
Essential Functions:
Transports patients in a safe and professional manner
Assures vehicles are clean and in working order. Responsible for cleaning of inside of van utilizing appropriate chemicals between patients.
Communicates with various hospital staff in order to receive relevant data and instructions.
Inspects vehicle prior to daily vehicle usage for safe and comfortable patient transport. Reports vehicle concerns timely.
Assists with transferring and balancing patients. Ensures patients' physical and overall comfort.
Follows all patient safety and vehicle safety requirements. Responsible for knowing what PPE to apply to patient and driver prior to transport.
Notifies proper staff regarding changes in condition or behavior of patient.
May be required to work during inclement weather and other staffing emergencies.
Provides an environment conducive to safety for patients, visitors, and staff. Assesses the risks for safety and implements appropriate precautions. Complies with appropriate and approved safety and Infection Prevention standards.
Maintains regular attendance in keeping with assigned work schedule.
Performs other duties as assigned to support overall effectiveness of the organization.
Minimum Job Requirements
Minimum Education & Experience:
AHA/ARC Basic Life Support certification required.
High school graduate or equivalent
preferred

Required Licenses, Certifications, and/or Documentation:
Must maintain acceptable driving record, current class specific driver's license, and insurability.
Driving record must meet the standards of the Transportation Policy.

Physical Requirements Over the Course of a Shift:
A significant amount of sitting, driving, and reaching, often for prolonged periods of time.

Sufficient manual dexterity to operate equipment and computer keyboard.
Close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
Ability to hear overhead pages.

Must submit an Ethics and Integrity in Ministry (EIM) Application for Ministry within the first week of employment, participate in an EIM Basic abuse prevention training workshop within 30 days of submitting a complete Application for Ministry, and maintain EIM compliance during the entire term of employment.
