Kenosha Transit is seeking bus drivers to work a part-time schedule driving middle and high school students on City shuttle buses during the public school year. Work is performed Monday through Friday. No work is scheduled during weekends, during the summer public school break, established school holidays or when students do not report (teacher workdays). Additional hours ("fill in work") at a higher pay rate may be available to part-time drivers during the school year and/or over established school breaks, but are not mandatory (unless required by Transit Management) nor are these hours guaranteed.
Applicants can select any of these schedule options:
Split Shift - Drivers are scheduled to work a split shift, Monday through Friday, for two (2) hours in the morning from 6:30am-8:30am and two (2) hours in the afternoon from 2:30pm-4:30pm (approximately 20 hours per week).
Mornings Only - Drivers are scheduled to work two (2) hours in the morning from 6:30am-8:30am (approximately 10 hours per week).

This position is represented by Local 998 of the Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) and is covered by a fair share agreement. What if I don't have my CDL?

Ability to pass a drug screen. Unfortunately use of CBD oil for anxiety, sleep and other legal reasons cannot be differentiated on the drug screen so this would disqualify you.
Use of your smartphone. Your timekeeping, communication with the office and trip performance will all be done on your smartphone using company apps.
The physical ability to walk, bend, push, pull and lift. You will need to walk in and out of hospitals and other facilities to assist your passenger to the vehicle. Sometimes you may need to push them in a wheel-chair or lift their walker into the vehicle.

Has regular contact with Assistant Transit Director, Transit Maintenance Supervisor, Transit Director, division employees, and general public. * Daily bus driving on designated routes throughout the JT system, asassigned.
* Conducts all operations in accordance with established rules and standards, keeping safety as the first priority.
* Provides excellent customer service to the public.
* Fare handling, providing route and scheduling information, conducts daily pre-trip inspections, necessary paperwork, sweeping of buses, and maintaining a timely schedule.
* Secures mobility devices safely on buses.
* Performs other special projects and other job duties as assigned or required during regular and non-business hours.
* All employees may be assigned by the City Manager or their designee to perform duties and assume responsibilities that are outside the scope of their work duties when the City Manager has declared a City disaster or the City Emergency Operations Center has been initiated.
The requirements listed below are necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.
* Must be 21 years of age or older.
* High school diploma or equivalent is required.
* Minimum three years' driving experience is required.
* Must have a valid state-issued driver's license.
* If not already fully licensed for commercial driving with passenger endorsement and no air brake restrictions, must possess a valid Commercial Driver Learning Permit, issued from the State Motor Vehicle Department, and present to Human Resources upon date of hire with the City of Janesville. Applicant will not be allowed to begin employment without proof of a valid Commercial Driver Learning Permit.
* Possession or ability to obtain and maintain a Commercial Drivers License (CDL) with passenger endorsement and no air brake restrictions within 60 calendar days of date of hire.
* Excellent driving record, as reported by State Motor Vehicle Department.
* Excellent prior work record.
* Experience transporting passengers (coach/school bus, transit bus, paratransit, shuttle van, minibus/cutaway, taxi, rideshare, etc.) desired.
* Customer service experience desired.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in both indoor and outdoor environments and may, on occasion, be exposed to adverse weather conditions, including extreme heat and extreme cold, high winds, and wet/humid conditions. This position spends the majority of their work day sitting and driving a municipal transit bus.
