Working Conditions
Drivers work part time-many are on the road fewer than twenty hours per week-and only when school is in session. Some volunteer to drive buses for field trips or extracurricular activities so they can work more hours. Driving can be stressful in bad weather or heavy traffic. While they may have to deal with unruly students at times, most drivers enjoy the interaction with children and take their responsibilities very seriously.
Physical Requirements
All school bus drivers within the state of North Carolina must meet physical requirements established by the North Carolina Department of Transportation.
The physical demands include, but are not limited to, standing, sitting, walking, lifting, carrying, reaching, handling, kneeling, crouching and bending. There will be extended periods of sitting required when transporting students. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds. Exposure to loud noise for long periods of time.

JOB TITLE: Special Population Bus Aide IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Director of Transportation GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Performs responsible human support work assisting with the transportation of pupils to and from school, providing help to the school bus driver; securing passengers in their seats; assisting students boarding and leaving the school bus. Work is performed under the regular supervision of the director of transportation and appropriate principals.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
* Assists students on and off buses, including operating hydraulic-lift for wheelchair confined students.
* Ensures that all student passengers are properly secured in their assigned seats.
* Assists in controlling student behavior.
* Learns bus routes, schedules, and pickup points.
* Assists substitute drivers with directions.
* Keeps abreast of route and bus stop changes and student day care arrangements.
* Assists drivers in maintaining a clean bus interior.
* Maintains discipline in keeping with the school division regulations.
* Instructs riders regarding being responsible passengers.
* Reports personal absences in time for the supervisor to secure a substitute aide.
* Is alert and exercises good judgment concerning emergencies, disabled vehicles and irregular special requests by parents of riders
* Performs other duties as required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or GED.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
General knowledge of the transportation of students; some knowledge of transporting handicapped students; ability to assist students with patience and understanding; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school officials, parents, students, and staff.

Temporary Pool- Shuttle Driver/ Vehicle Equipment Operator

The primary responsibility for the Shuttle Driver is to pick-up and drop-off students, staff and faculty at designated areas around campus. This position will also be responsible for providing transportation services to academic/non-academic departments and athletics.
Full-Time and/or Part-Time positions are available. Operation Hours are Monday through Friday 7:00 A.M. until 2:00 A.M.
Temporary pools are open quarterly. For consideration for future pools, applicants will need to reapply.

SUMMARY: Responsible for safely driving a commercial motor vehicle over established route to deliver dairy products, providing excellent customer service.

Ensure all paperwork is signed and store stamped.
Comply with DOT regulations and company policy including required pre and post trip inspections, completing required paperwork daily.
Maintain assigned truck in a neat and clean condition.
