General Statement of Duties
This is a sworn law enforcement position responsible for enforcing state and local laws and ordinances, responding to calls for the protection of life and property, conducting investigations, making arrests, and performing other assigned law enforcement and public safety duties; performs related work as required. All applicants must be at least 21 years of age to be considered for this position.
Classification Summary
The principal function of an employee in this class is to enforce State and local laws and to perform all work duties and activities in accordance with County policies, procedures, and safety practices. Duties normally consist of patrol and traffic activities in the County on an assigned shift. Deputies may be delegated to additional assignments in areas such as field instructor, community services, civil or warrant service, Special Response Team or canine service, or other assignment. Deputies may also be assigned a specific geographic area of responsibility as a resident Deputy. The work may involve crime scene and accident investigations, court appearances, event response, resident checks, animal control, interviewing victims and witnesses, community policing, narcotics investigations, preparing reports, assisting with jail duties. The work is performed under the supervision of a Patrol Sergeant or Patrol Corporal. Some latitude is granted to the employee, but work is subject to stringent state and County legal guidelines. The principal duties of this class are performed in a in a work environment in which the employee is subject to potential personal danger and health hazards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Patrols assigned areas of the County in a car or other assigned vehicle;
Enforces state and local laws and ordinances;
Maintains community presence and/or responds to calls for service and takes appropriate action;
Responds to calls related to the protection of life and property, traffic incidents, and other public safety emergencies;
Responds to patrol calls which include domestic incidents, burglaries, juvenile disturbances, civil disturbances, health and welfare assists, civil standby, business and residential alarms, thefts, traffic accidents, animal problems, civil protection order/no contact order violations and services, medical and fire calls, bomb threats, hazardous material spills, and other public and life safety incidents;
Determines the existence of probable cause and identifies and takes suspects and offenders into physical custody, or refers charges for review and prosecution;
Prepares reports of arrests made, activities performed, and unusual incidents observed in a timely manner;
Conducts both preliminary and follow-up investigations and collects evidence in disturbances, criminal incidents, hazardous incidents, vehicle accidents, and deaths;
Verbally interacts with witnesses and victims, suspects, and offenders to obtain information;
Conducts examinations of persons, vehicles, premises, or areas to determine the presence of individuals or illegal activities or articles;
Takes suspect or offender into custody and delivers them to appropriate confinement location, maintaining security and safety of individuals being moved from one location to another;
Performs self-initiated patrol consisting of traffic stops, patrolling high crime areas of the County, warrant arrests, DUI patrol, and other relevant law enforcement activities;
Performs patrol, crowd control, traffic control, public information, and related duties during community events, celebrations, and activities;
Presents testimony and evidence in court and other legal proceedings;
Maintains, cleans, and cares for County-issued equipment and vehicles;
Performs all work duties and activities in accordance with federal, state, County, and Department statutes, laws, ordinances, policies, procedures, and safety practices.
Other Duties and Responsibilities
On call after regular duty hours to respond to emergency situations;
May be required to make court appearances on off-duty time;
May be assigned a specialty area such as Canine Handler, SWAT, or other;
May be assigned a specific geographic region as Resident Deputy;
Performs other related duties as required.

As part of an assigned team, University Police Officers provide campus safety, security, and law enforcement services to the University community. In addition, the individual provides a wide range of services, including both traditional and non-traditional police services.
The successful candidate must project a positive image and participate in crime prevention and community-oriented public safety programming that reflects the University's diverse population.
Additionally, University Police Officers enforce University regulations, local ordinances, and state laws. Duties and Responsibilities:
Under direction, provides foot and vehicular patrol to detect security problems, safety hazards, and to provide surveillance for an entire University campus or portion thereof.
Complete training and have familiarity with dispatch functions.
Participate in directed patrol activities to observe and detect unusual activities, circumstances, or violations of the law.
Conduct investigations, make arrests, issue summons, enforce laws and ordinances, provide directions and information.
Deter, restrain, and/or arrest individuals attempting to inflict physical harm on themselves or others, or commit criminal acts.

Maintain radio contact with headquarters/police personnel.

Minimum Qualifications:
These positions are open to entry-level applicants OR applicants who possess a current New Jersey Basic Course for Police Officer Certification (formerly known as Class A);OR are a Special Officer Class II (SLEO II), which is eligible for a waiver of training from the Basic Course for Police Officers; OR have completed the Alternate Route Program for the Basic Course for Police Officers (BCPO).

Location
Current Constabulary policy requires officers to live in the Avon and Somerset Constabulary boundary and within a 20 mile radius of their station of posting. However, we would strongly recommend that you do not enter into any lease or purchase of property until a posting is confirmed.
Postings are decided on the basis of our Constabularies need for personnel at particular locations. Individual preferences will be noted and attempts made to accommodate, depending on the Constabularies need at the time.
Salary and leave
Officers in this constabulary are paid in accordance with the national rates. Salaries are paid directly into officer's bank or building society account on the 28th of each month.

Responsibilities for Response Security Guard:
* Monitor the premises to ensure security
* Conduct patrols to spot any suspicious activity
* Control access points and verify identities
* Respond quickly to incidents or potential threats
* Provide excellent customer service while maintaining security
* Write detailed reports on events and incidents
* Collaborate with authorities during serious situations
* Ensure the safety and protection of individuals and property
Qualifications for Response Security Guard:
* Be authorized to work in the U.S.
* Be able to provide documentation of High School Diploma or GED
* Be able to ace (and pass) an extensive screening process
* Ability to think quickly and adapt to changing situations
* Responsive and strong problem solving skills
* If you have Security, Military, Law Enforcement experience - even better!
* You have a state license if required
