Cornea surgeries are performed at the Callahan Eye Hospital, (over 13,000+) surgeries are performed per year within 17 operating rooms. The department's practice has rapidly grown into the largest multi-specialty Ophthalmology practice in the state of Alabama. The Department has nearly 50 full- and part-time clinical and research faculty and is based in the Callahan Eye Hospital, part of the UAB Health System. UAB Callahan Eye has 16 eye operating rooms in a dedicated facility and operates a newly expanded network of more than 15 satellite clinics. Responsibilities include seeing patients in the Sickle Cell clinic and conducting clinical research.
