Job Summary:
To assess students' intellectual and functional levels, develop behavior plans; provide information on child development issues to school personnel and parents, collaborate with community agencies regarding individual student plans, and provide recommendations for program development and student placement.

Essential Duties:
Assesses students' functional capabilities and home and/or classroom environment to determine students' functional level and develop recommendations and/or placement.

Consults with teachers, parents, other personnel, and/or outside professionals to provide requested information, develop plans for services, and/or make recommendations.
Actively participates in school MTSS teams and processes.
Coordinates with community agencies, including medical, judicial, social service, and mental health services, to determine appropriate treatments to meet the needs of specific students.
Facilitates meetings and processes to ensure curriculum guidelines are met and/or state mandates are achieved.
Implements school-wide program development and program evaluation (e.g., crisis intervention services) to ensure effective programs to assist children who experience physical, mental, social, or emotional difficulties.
Intervenes in occurrences of inappropriate behavior of students to assist students in modifying such behavior and develop successful interpersonal skills.
Manages assigned special grants and/or projects (e.g., budget, reports, goals) to ensure that specifications are achieved.
Participates in a variety of meetings, workshops, and seminars as assigned for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions.
Prepares a wide variety of written materials (e.g., quantity reports, student activities, correspondence, internal audits) to document activities, providing written reference and/or conveying information.
Presents information (e.g., budget overviews, accounting processes, distribution formulas) to communicate information, gain feedback, and ensure adherence to established internal controls.
Researches resources and methods (e.g., intervention and treatment techniques, assessment tools and methods, community resources) for the purpose of determining the appropriate approach for addressing students' functional goals.
Supervises interns, practicum students, and others to monitor performance, providing for professional growth and achieving the overall objectives of the school's curriculum.
Assists other personnel for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.

ROLE OVERVIEW:
Social Workers at KIPP North Carolina provide crucial support and services to students. In this role, social workers will work directly with students, teachers, community partners and families to provide individual and group counseling, as well as link families to long-term solutions and external support organizations. Social Workers report to their school Principals and are coached by the Director of School Social Work on the Regional Support Team.
Responsibilities of a School Social Worker include, but are not limited to:
Service Delivery 30%
Facilitate individual sessions using evidence-based, student centered interventions to guide conversations and achieve student's goals.
Facilitate group sessions using evidence-based, student centered interventions as a model to guide conversations and influence social emotional skills/ behaviors.
Facilitate classroom lessons modeling evidence-based, student centered interventions for students and teachers.
Build peer connections by using evidence-based, student centered interventions during restorative practices (such as circle, peer conflict resolution) and lunch bunch.
Participate in continuous training to develop and build their evidence-based and student centered toolbox.
Respond to acute mental health crises and provide appropriate intervention services to students and families.
Develop and manage 504 plans, monitor progress, and provide support and consultation to general and special education teachers to promote implementation. Provide support in the development of student behavior plans.
Conducts student and classroom observations to monitor individual student progress
Provide on-going consultation to teachers, parents, and other school personnel to support students' learning, behavioral challenges, and mental health needs.

Support stakeholders in understanding the integration of child development, student academics, and social-emotional functioning.
Demonstrate a positive, collaborative, problem-solving mindset with students, parents/guardians, educators, administrators, community members, and colleagues.
Work directly with Community Based Organizations to make referrals for students in need of mental health services.
Collaborate with the school team to decrease chronic absenteeism and truancy.
School and Community Support 25%
Participate in Attendance meetings and support families who have been identified as Truant by creating a plan to increase student attendance
Conduct home visits to ensure well-being of student and to provide support to families in their natural environment
Serve as the school liaison to social service agencies in the surrounding community.
Act as the School-Based Homeless Liaison, identifying and supporting families that are in need of permanent housing through completion of referrals and fulfilling identified needs.
Participate in mediations, administrative reviews, discipline hearings, and due process proceedings as it relates to students on caseload.

* Gather data and provides assessment to determine student needs and assure the implementation of appropriate services for exceptional children.

* Facilitates use of resources for meeting educational, behavioral and social-economic needs of students.
Major Function: Consultation and Training
* Provides consultation and training to parents, teachers, other school personnel, and community agencies to enhance the learning and services as a liaison for the exceptional children's director.
Major Function: Program Development
* Assists in the planning, development, and evaluation of programs to meet identified learning and adjustment needs.
* Assist in the development and evaluation of plans and programs that prevent, reduce or alleviate situations which may interfere with the learning process of students.
* Assures that EC folders are in compliance for the December and April headcounts.
Major Function: School Psychology Program Implementation
* Delivers a planned and coordinated program of psychological services.
* Organizes time and resources to meet responsibilities and maintain appropriate documentation.
Major Function: Coordination/Liaison
* Coordinates services between home, school and community agencies in addressing student needs for the exceptional children's director.
* Communicates effectively with students, parents, and school staff.
Major Function: Professional Practice and Development
* Adheres to standards of professional practice in delivery of services as well as in conversation and mannerisms.
* Seeks to improve professional knowledge and skills.
* Maintains confidentiality and provides support to exceptional children's program and director, at all time.

General Responsibilities
Responsible for establishing comprehensive school-based mental health services at separate school sites and integrated throughout the school day within a blended therapeutic and educational environment. Services include individual, group and family therapy; community meetings, school wide behavior management systems, therapeutic recreation and skills building activities. Adjunct services include case management, crisis management, consultation and collaboration with IEP team members. Services provided by qualified mental health clinicians and rehabilitation specialists.
Essential Job Functions
Develop an intake and referral process to services that expands the safety net and assures that no student falls through the cracks.
Coordinate training for all school personnel, focusing on intake and referral process to mental health specialists.
Assist schools in adopting the most successful prevention and intervention strategies that address student needs.
Provide staff development on mental health and co-occurring disorders among student populations.
Provide training to students, parents, and partners as requested and needed.
Provide Tier 2 and 3 students individualized, intensive counseling services within the school setting.
Provide clinical psychotherapy services to students with trauma related symptoms.
Provide Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT) school based treatment.
Provide training to teachers to facilitate identification of student needs for intensive counseling services.
Coordinate prevention activities with staff and partners for student engagement and empowerment.
Provide technical support to schools and communities on mental health services, programming, and concerns.
Perform other duties as requested.

Comprehensive knowledge of school administration principles, practices and procedures.
Comprehensive knowledge of student service principles and practices and administrative hearing techniques.
