Purpose Statemen
The job of School Psychologist is done for the purpose/s of ensuring the appropriate identification and placement of students with disabilities or for gifted programming; measuring and interpreting the intellectual, adaptive, academic, social and emotional development of children; interpreting results of psychological and educational assessments; interpreting and applying state and federal codes; and developing strategies and interventions to address the education needs of students.
This job reports to Director.
Essential Functions
Assists with planning and implementation of professional development with district and building staff for the purpose of providing staff with continuing education.
Assists teachers in creating learner profiles and recommending research-based interventions for the purpose of supporting students.
Collaborates with district staff such as coordinator, parents, and community for the purpose of implementing and maintaining services and/or programs.
Compiles information from a variety of sources for the purpose of producing a comprehensive evaluation report in compliance with established guidelines.
Compiles data and writes evaluation reports for the purpose of determining eligibility for Special Education services and/or gifted services.
Conducts evaluations (e.g. educational, psychological, observations, clinical interviews, and functional behavior assessments, etc.) for the purpose of measuring the intellectual, adaptive, academic, social and emotional development of children and/or determining eligibility of services in compliance with regulatory requirements.
Conducts individual and small group lessons on social or affective skills for the purpose of promoting psychological and social/emotional success in the educational setting.
Consults with administration, teachers, parents, other personnel and/or outside professionals for the purpose of providing relevant information, developing plans, implementing behavioral strategies, and making recommendations.
Develops behavioral intervention plans, if applicable, for the purpose of promoting academic and behavioral success in school.
Facilitates and/or participates in meetings and processes (e.g. transition among building programs and grade levels, etc.) for the purpose of implementing and maintaining programs and services which provide free and appropriate public education for students meeting eligibility under IDEA or gifted.
Interprets and explains assessment results and eligibility considerations to others (e.g. parents, teachers, administrators, team members, etc.) for the purpose of determining identification, services, and placement of students.
Intervenes in occurrences of inappropriate student behavior as needed for the purpose of assisting students in modifying such behavior and recommending research-based interventions.
Monitors the gifted or special education process, including compliance indicators, for the purpose of assisting in the provision of the appropriate identification and placement of students.
Monitors and reviews documentation for the purpose of ensuring compliance with established legal requirements.
Participates in IEP meetings as needed for the purpose of providing effective support for children.
Presents information on a variety of topics for the purpose of communicating information and/or gaining feedback.
Researches new instructional, intervention, behavioral strategies, and/or testing procedures for the purpose of supporting staff and students and promoting success in the school setting.
Serves as a member of the building level MTSS team as needed for the purpose of assisting staff in the development, implementation and progress monitoring of research based interventions.
Supervises interns, practicum students and others as needed for the purpose of monitoring performance, providing for professional growth and achieving overall objectives.
Other Functions
Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

School Psychologist (Grades K -12)
Position Purpose
Under the general supervision of the Director of Pupil Services, to assist students, teachers and parents in enabling students to derive the fullest potential educational experience from school by promoting positive self esteem and resilience, and providing suggested methods and plans for overcoming psychological or mental health problems.
Essential Performance Responsibilities
Conducts psychological assessments, testing and diagnostic examinations of students for the purpose of recommending courses of action or corrective procedures to maximize learning and overcoming psychological issues.
Conducts individual, group or facilitative therapy for students whose diagnosed problems would benefit from behavior modification or differentiated instruction.
Assists with the identification and placement of all types of exceptional students.
Coordinates with administrators and other teaching staff members to ascertain individual student's abilities and needs, including students with special needs, and to familiarize stakeholders with psychological services.
Attends PPT meetings as needed for students with special needs.
Serves as a resource and consultant on mental health and child psychology, conducts in-service programs as requested.
Assists with the school district's dropout prevention efforts.
Serves as ready resource to students to provide counseling that will lead each student to increased personal growth, self-understanding, and maturity.
Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings, or by conducting research, and by maintaining professional relationships.
Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping and providing student information to prospective colleges and employers, as required by district procedures and applicable laws.
Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
Selects and requisitions appropriate books, aids and other supplies and equipment and maintains inventory records.
Additional Duties
Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of child psychology principles, assessments, methods, behavior modification, etc., and current developments in child psychology.
Knowledge of differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles.
Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans.
Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed.
Ability to organize and coordinate work.
Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.
Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards

Qualifications Profile
Certification/License:

Bachelors from an accredited college or university in education discipline applicable to teaching assignment.

Key Responsibilities:
· Deliver behavioral health interventions in school settings aligned with individualized treatment goals.
· Support students in developing coping strategies, social-emotional skills, and daily functioning abilities.
· Coordinate care with schools, families, community agencies, and internal teams to ensure holistic support.
· Manage a caseload, ensuring services are person-centered, effective, and well-documented.
· Provide timely crisis intervention, follow-up support, and outreach for missed appointments.
· Conduct home visits and community outreach to promote engagement and treatment success.
· Assist with quality assurance tasks, data collection, and adherence to agency and contractual requirements.
· Participate actively in professional development, supervision, and performance evaluation activities.
· Adapt flexibly to evolving student needs and contribute to overall program goals.
· Perform other duties as assigned.
Education, Experience, and/or Credential Qualifications:
· Bachelor's degree in psychology, social work, behavioral health, or a related human services field;
OR
· Bachelor's degree in any field with two years of related behavioral health experience;
OR
· Any four-year combination of higher education and two years of qualifying experience;
OR
· Associate's degree in applied science in behavioral health support;
OR
· Four years of full-time qualifying experience in the field.
· Qualifying experience includes providing individual or group services focused on recovery/resiliency, teaching coping skills, supporting functioning in school/community/employment settings, and implementing treatment plan objectives.
· For positions serving Illinois: Additional qualifications per IL Administrative Code apply, including meeting Behavioral Health Professional (BHP) definitions and completing required IDHS DMH trainings.
Additional Qualifications:
· Successful completion of background check including criminal record, driving record, abuse/neglect, and fingerprint check.
· Current driver's license, acceptable driving record, and current auto insurance.
Physical Requirements:
ADA Consideration - Sedentary work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, or pull, or otherwise move objects. Requires repetitive movements of hands, fingers, and arms for typing or writing during work shifts. Primarily involves sitting, with occasional walking or standing.
