Peraton is seeking a Lead Systems Engineer to support the NOAA Advanced Weather Interactive Processing System (AWIPS) program - a mission-critical platform supporting National Weather Service forecasters nationwide.
In this role, you will provide senior technical leadership across the full systems engineering lifecycle, ensuring the delivery of reliable, high-performance capabilities that support operational weather forecasting and public safety.
What You'll Do:
Provide technical leadership for the NOAA AWIPS program, guiding systems engineering activities across the full lifecycle
Lead systems integration, verification & validation (V&V), and requirements management for complex, mission-critical systems
Translate customer and operational requirements into end-to-end system solutions, balancing technical, schedule, and cost constraints
Oversee system architecture, design standards, and technical implementation to ensure performance and design integrity
Coordinate the identification, reporting, and resolution of system anomalies, ensuring operational reliability
Engage directly with customers and stakeholders on strategy, requirements, emerging technologies, and technical problem solving
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
Min of 12 years with BS/BA; Minimum of 10 years with MS/MA; Minimum of 7 years with Ph.D
4 years of relevant experience will be considered in lieu of a bachelor's degree.
Microsoft Visual Studio and NetBeans IDEs
UML software design tools (Enterprise Architect)
Programming with MS SQLServer DB and/or Postgres DB
Programming with scripting languages (Perl, JavaScript, PowerShell, etc.)
Strong working knowledge of Service Oriented architectures.
Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC) methodologies.
Git and other software version control or management tools.
Atlassian tool suite (Jira, FishEye/Crucible, BitBucket, etc)
Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust
Preferred Qualifications:
Prior experience supporting NOAA programs.
Active/Current Public Trust

Target Salary Range $146,000 - $234,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual's experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
