To support progress across our industry, we provide state-of-the-art components and vertically integrated infrastructure for others to build on via Science Foundry.
Science is developing SciFi, a ruggedized neural recording headstage, and the accompanying SDK, synapse. This platform will enable neuroscientists, researchers, and medical device implementers to write high-performance code that runs directly on the device. We are looking for an experienced systems software engineer to join onsite in Alameda, CA to help build out both the SciFi hardware platform and its software ecosystem. You will be building the foundation that allows users to implement real-time neural signal processing, decoding inference, and low-latency streaming directly on SciFi. We're looking for technical and product judgement above all: can you ask the right questions to understand how neuroscientists think about their experiments, then turn around and build performant systems and APIs that make sense for their workflows, quickly?
Key Qualifications
* 3+ years systems programming experience in C++, Rust, or similar low-level languages
* Proficiency with Linux development and debugging tools
* Experience with hardware interfaces, device drivers, or embedded systems
* Understanding of real-time systems and low-latency programming

* Background in high-performance computing, game engines, or real-time media systems
* Experience with networking protocols and data streaming
* Knowledge of signal processing or DSP programming
* Previous work on IoT devices, robotics, or similar embedded systems
* Experience with scientific instrumentation or data acquisition systems

Cell Integration Engineer
Science Corporation 4.3
Science Corporation job in Alameda, CA
Science is a clinical stage, vertically integrated technology company focused on solving some of neuroscience's hardest questions and most serious unmet medical needs. We work to restore quality of life to those with debilitating conditions for which there are no treatment options, creating devices aimed at restoring vision, cognition, and mobility to patients who have lost it. To support progress across our industry, we provide state-of-the-art components and vertically integrated infrastructure for others to build on via Science Foundry.
Science is developing a biohybrid brain-computer interface to increase the number of interface channels by several orders of magnitude. We are expanding our pilot work on this subject, recently posted on bio Rxiv, to develop a fully integrated cell-device hybrid that can potentially achieve over a million single-unit interface channels with the brain.
We are seeking a cell integration engineer who can help take our cell-device interface technology to the next level. Candidates can look forward to becoming a key contributor in a talented, driven, and interdisciplinary team focused on developing cell-based neural interfaces. Ideal candidates will have extensive experience in neural tissue engineering, are proficient working with a range of biomaterials, including functionalized hydrogels, and are skilled in tissue culture. Successful candidates will work closely with cell biologists, fabrication engineers, neuroscientists, and surgeons to drive cell-device scaffold development to enable robust survival, differentiation, and integration of engrafted cells while maintaining proximity to devices.
Role responsibilities:
* Develop new formulations for implantable hydrogels
* Develop in vitro experimental paradigms and perform experiments to test the effect of new formulations on neuronal viability and differentiation
* Collaborate to improve techniques for loading cells into devices and surgically implanting them
* Analyze experiments and present results
Key qualifications:
* A track record of excellence and creativity in your field as demonstrated by publications, patents, success with commercialization or translation, or other notable achievements
* A deep background in neural tissue engineering theory and practice
* Practical experience functionalizing hydrogels with biologically active agents
* Proficiency in materials engineering methods and techniques
* Expert level sterile technique
* Thrives when working collaboratively and tackling difficult technical challenges
* Excellent communication skills
* Commitment to a respectful and supportive work environment
Preferred qualifications:
* Direct experience transplanting stem cells into the nervous system
* Proficiency in analytical chemistry
* Proficiency in proteomics
* Background in biomaterials for nervous system grafts, for example ischemic stroke
Salary/Pay Range:
Science is required under California law to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. We determine your level based on your interview performance and make an offer based on the indicated salary band. The base salary range for this full-time position is $110,000 - $160,000 annually + equity + benefits. Within the range, individual pay is determined by several factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Please keep in mind that the equity portion of the offer is not included in these numbers.
Benefits:
At Science, our benefits are in place to support the whole you:
* Competitive salary and equity
* Medical, dental, vision and life insurance
* Flexible vacation and company-paid holidays
* Healthy meals and snacks provided for non-remote employees
* Paid parental, jury duty, bereavement, family care and medical leave
* Dependent Care Flexible Spending Account, subsidized by Science
* Flexible Spending Account
* 401(k)
