As the Research Scientist I, you will be involved with the development of new technologies and product offerings for Specialty Agriculture and Ornamental Horticulture market channels. You will be a key contributor on complex R&D projects. In addition, you will conduct independent research, lead small project teams, and frequently collaborate with Manufacturing and Quality.
This position reports to the North American R&D Senior Manager but can receive guidance from other Senior Scientists within the R&D department.

* Serve as a subject matter expert for product formulations, standard operational procedures, and raw materials for a variety of controlled-release fertilizers and water-soluble fertilizers. With knowledge acquisition, responsibilities can expand to agricultural surfactants and plant protection products.
* Create protocols and execute research trials to evaluate and qualify new raw materials or assess various alternative product formulation blends. Will use knowledge of materials to ensure compatibility and stability of final product blends.
* Conduct experiments on lab and pilot-scale production equipment. Identify creative ways to simulate production on a lab or pilot-scale.
* Identify and source new equipment to be used for research purposes.
* Partner with operations to identify opportunities for cost savings and quality improvements.
* Assist operations with troubleshooting processing and formulation issues.
* Develop or improve analytical methods for evaluating products and materials.
* Assist in the generation of intellectual property.
* Maintain awareness of emerging scientific and regulatory trends.
* Train entry level R&D staff. Supervise and mentor Co-Op and Intern students working in the department.

SAIC is seeking a Quantum Network Scientist to join our team in North Charleston, SC. This is a hybrid remote role and will require the ideal candidate to be local to the North Charleston, SC area.
The Quantum Network Scientist will have specialized experience (> 1 year) in at least one of the following areas.
Optical Quantum Metrology: Optical quantum metrology encompasses the generation, detection, characterization, and verification of quantum states of light, including the use of quantum entanglement to enhance sensitivity compared to classical methods. Detection methods include cutting-edge single-photon sources and state-of-the-art (photon-number resolving) single-photon detectors to investigate fundamental aspects of optical quantum metrology. Optical Quantum Metrology includes developing measurement protocols and characterization tools for single-photon sources, detectors, and components. It also includes protocols used for applications such as entanglement distribution in quantum networks, synchronization of distant quantum network nodes, quantum component characterization and quantum-enhanced measurements using exotic and non-Gaussian quantum states of light.
Quantum Enabled Optical Communications: Quantum enabled optical communications includes the implementation of quantum information science, quantum measurement science and quantum state detection to experimentally implement quantum-enabled classical and quantum optical communication links over fiber and free-space channels. While quantum key distribution (QKD) is included in this definition, it is not the focus of the desired position and experience in using quantum optical effects to create hybrid classical and quantum networks is preferred.
Quantum Networks: Quantum networking includes research and development to optimize performance (losses, synchronization, entanglement distribution management, noise, etc.) to facilitate quantum optical networks across a fiber and free-space testbed. Job Summary

The Dahne Lab within the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences and the Hollings Cancer Center at the Medical University of South Carolina announce a staff scientist I position in behavioral health (smoking cessation, mood disorders) and technology-based interventions (telehealth, remote clinical trials). The staff scientist will assist with ongoing clinical trials related to smoking cessation and depression treatment. Additional ongoing projects center around development of innovative methods to improve the feasibility and rigor of remote trials. These projects are funded via multiple NIH grants including R01s and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) awards. Opportunities exist to develop new research projects within ongoing studies and for secondary analyses of existing datasets. Interest in academic entrepreneurship is welcomed, though not required. The candidate will have opportunities to collaborate on and lead scientific articles, collaborate on and lead new NIH grant applications, and receive mentoring in developing new areas of grant-funded research relevant to behavioral health and telehealth. A postdoctoral research opportunity is available with Clemson University to conduct research on abiotic and biotic stresses affecting cucurbit crops. The selected applicant will conduct research primarily on biotic factors (e.g., viral and fungal diseases) on cucurbit crops including squashes, cucumber and watermelon. Research assignment will include phenotyping cucurbit and watermelon germplasm for tolerance to biotic factors, selecting appropriate genotypes or single plants with resistance and advancing them to develop homozygous lines, identifying QTL regions and developing molecular markers, determining genes being up or down regulated during host-pathogen interactions. Other research projects can include research on diseases of cucurbits including studies to understand inheritance of host resistance to biotic and abiotic stress, genetic mapping, marker development, differential gene expression during disease development on susceptible and resistant cucurbit genotypes etc. Cucurbit crops that the laboratory primarily works on include watermelon, cucumber, melon, and various gourds.
The appointment is full-time for one year and may be renewed for an additional year contingent upon performance and availability of funding. Salary will be commensurate with experience. The position is also responsible for analyzing complex datasets using specialized software and preparing publication-quality figures, manuscripts, abstracts, and presentations. Job Duties:
25% - Perform ex vivo electrophysiology recordings using brain slices prepared from control and alcohol exposed mice. Experiments use patch-clamp electrophysiology and optogenetics to measure alcohol-induced changes in intrinsic excitability, excitatory and inhibitory synaptic transmission and plasticity and responsiveness of astrocytes to various modulators.
25% - Lead laboratory staff in behavioral studies of alcohol drinking in mice expressing chemogenetic and optogenetic constructs. These involve both homecage models of drinking and those using operant self-administration and are combined with fiber photometry recording of the activity of neurons and astrocytes.
20% - Perform stereotaxic surgeries on mice in preparation for in vivo behavioral and fiber photometry experiments and ex vivo slice electrophysiology experiments. The surgeries include fiber cannula implantation and injection of fluorescent retrobeads and/or viral constructs. This requires both fine-motor skills, knowledge of the anatomy of the mouse nervous system and prior expertise in stereotaxic brain surgery.
15% - Analyze the behavioral, electrophysiological and photometry data using specialized software (e.g. Med-Associates, Axograph, Synapse, Matlab) and perform statistical analysis using commercially available programs (e.g. Graphpad Prism, SPSS). Prepare summaries of experimental data for discussion at lab meetings with PI and staff.
15% - Prepare initial versions of manuscripts, abstracts and progress reports that include publication-quality figures, detailed experimental methods and drafts of the introduction, results and discussion sections. Prepare posters for presentation at national and international meetings.
