Plans, prepares, conducts and records complex bench level chemical/biochemical experiments. Prepares reports and analysis of results as related to product/process development improvement. Activities may be focused individual projects or assignments as a member of a project team which may include project leadership duties.

Required Work Experience:

Job Description:
Medical Laboratory Scientists analyze human blood, tissues, and body fluids. They also oversee the performance of thousands of types of medical laboratory tests using a wide variety of precision instruments and manual methods.
Also known as Medical Technologists, this position exercises independent judgment, correlates test results, and interprets the findings with respect to normal or abnormal ranges. Minimum Qualifications:
• MT(ASCP) or MLS(ASCP) Certification or equivalent Scientist/Technologist level certification required. FOR GS-11: Successfully completed 1 year of specialized experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. FOR GS-11: Successfully completed 1 year of specialized experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. To be creditable, the specialized experience must have been at the GS-09 grade level or equivalent under other pay systems in the Federal service. Examples of specialized experience may include: serving as an advanced analyst in the field of analytical chemistry for analysis of water samples (primarily stream water, soil leachate, and precipitation); using equipment and instruments including atomic absorption spectrophotometers, ion chromatographs, automatic titrators, ammonia analyzers, carbon analyzers, and nitrogen analyzers; performing preparations, quality control, calibrations, calculations, waste and sample disposal related to the analysis; training other technicians in the performance of routine duties; and generating reports based on analytical data produced.

At this level, physical scientists have the ability to independently perform scientific work of considerable difficulty.

* Knowledge of professional environmental physical scientific principles, practices, techniques, and procedures to effectively participate in project development, execution, training, and assistance in assigned projects (see Environmental Program Checklist).
