Responsibilities The Ecological Restoration Team at NV5 is seeking a full-time, remote River Restoration Scientist with 3+ years of experience and a strong proficiency in science focused on rivers, streams, and wetlands. The successful candidate will work cooperatively on a multi-disciplinary design team and will be administratively responsible to the River Restoration Group Manager. Primary Duties * Conduct geomorphic and aquatic habitat assessments utilizing traditional field techniques in rivers, streams and wetlands. * Utilize GIS and remote sensing methods to evaluate site conditions and characterize geomorphic processes. * Install and manage ground water wells and stream gages across restoration projects including data processing and analysis to support design and monitoring. * Document soil profile characteristics and hydric soil indicators across multiple ecoregions. * Conduct macroinvertebrate and water quality sampling following EPA and USACE guidance for project monitoring and baseline documentation. * Produce maps to support field efforts and restoration design. * Analyze data using Stream Quantification Tool or other functional assessments to support design and project permitting. * Prepare report elements to support permitting and documentation for regulators and project partners. * Provide construction oversight, utilizing effective communication and decision-making with contractors and clients during project construction to ensure successful project implementation. * Maintain and track project schedules, deliver design deliverables on time and within budget, and effectively communicate and collaborate with the project team. Specific duties may include the following: * Drive health and safety practices throughout all aspects of work; * Perform field investigations of projects sites including wetland and stream delineations with functional assessments according to applicable methodologies, aquatic and environmental assessments, environmental sampling (i.e., soil, surface water, groundwater, etc.), and GPS/mobile data collection; * Perform environmental inspections and other site inspections, record and convey field observations accurately, communicate observations with contractors, clients, and regulatory parties; * Assist with the preparation of technical memoranda, reports, and electronic deliverables; * Coordinate with project managers, client service managers, and other project personnel from other disciplines; * Successfully manage and deliver tasks/projects on time, on budget, and with high quality; * Manage and execute work on compliance and permitting for industrial, commercial and/or retail facilities including program planning and development, permitting, and reporting; * Execute activities on small to large projects for federal, state, or local environmental permitting, including but not limited to including the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) and Georgia Environmental Protection Division (EPD); * Perform work in a team environment or work independently with multiple project budgets and deadlines simultaneously; * Participate in improving company resources and tools to improve production and efficiency; * Implement BC's quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) process; and * Support business development pursuits related to client opportunities Desired Skills and Experience: * Minimum two years of professional or academic experience in the ecological and water resources field. * B.S. or M.S. degree in natural resources, environmental science, biology, ecology, or related science. * Working knowledge of aquatic systems for physical and biological assessments or investigations. * Working knowledge of ArcGIS. * Excellent technical writing and communications skills. * Experience using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook). * Ability to delineate wetlands and other waters using the appropriate regional supplements to the USACE Wetland Delineation Manual. * Related professional experience with environmental permitting. * Project experience facilitating and working with regulators and clients on projects associated with compliance and permitting. * Project management skills including attention to health and safety; program delivery strategy development and execution by collaborating with a team of project managers and staff; financial metrics tracking; and implementation of QA/QC * Successful marketing, proposal writing, proposal management, and public presentations experience * Ability to work in a team environment and manage multiple tasks * Working knowledge of erosion and sediment control permits and best management practices (BMPs). * Proficiency with GPS technology or other mobile data collection (Trimble, GNSS Receivers, tablets, ArcMap, etc.) preferred. * Current OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER certification preferred, but not required * Current GSWCC Level 1A certification preferred, but not required * Field assignments require ability to walk field sites of varying size that may have areas of uneven, muddy, and/or rocky ground to perform inspections, collect samples and take photographs. * Valid driver's license, and good driving record required; * Periodic travel with field work is anticipated Salary Range: The anticipated starting pay range for this position is based on the employee's primary work location and may be more or less depending upon skills, experience, and education.
