As a Global Supply Chain Manufacturing Scientist, you'll support the Bio-Rad manufacturing plant that produces recombinant proteins and other specialized life science products that researchers and scientists need to make health-care breakthroughs and save lives. Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders, you'll help to implement continuous process improvement projects, perform investigations related to product issues, and identify solutions to address manufacturing issues. Fish-mediated flux (i.e., respiration, fecal pellets, and carcasses) is now widely recognized to account for a substantial part of total carbon export (between 10 and 30% of the export, depending on regions). However, the magnitude and variability of these fluxes in the Gulf of Maine are still not well understood. Here, using a combination of lab measurements, field sampling, and numerical modeling, the Postdoctoral Research Associate will dive deeper into the role of forage fish fecal pellets in the Gulf of Maine (regional production, sinking speed, and degradation rates), to obtain estimates of fish-mediated gravitational export and its spatio-temporal variations. The successful candidate will have a background in marine ecology and/or biological oceanography, and a deep understanding of marine carbon cycling and biological processes. The candidate should have experience in numerical modeling and/or statistical analysis, should be able to work relatively independently, and must demonstrate a strong record of producing high-quality scientific manuscripts. The incumbent is encouraged to explore other projects and proposals in line with his interests and expertise, the interests of the Biological Oceanography Lab, and contributing to GMRI's Strategic Plan. The Orthopaedic Surgery Research Associate will administer and execute all research projects within the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery. About the Opportunity The Roux Institute at Northeastern University (NU) and the Jackson Laboratory (JAX) are seeking a ‘co-mentored' postdoctoral fellow as part of a new JAX/Roux Institute joint Applied Data Science Postdoctoral Fellowship program. Under this program, the postdoctoral trainee will be co-mentored by NU and JAX researchers working on “Grand Challenges” identified by Roux and JAX executive leadership. These Grand Challenges are jointly selected programs that enhance the JAX/Roux partnership, align with each institution's strategic priorities, and integrate biological and data science. This cycle's grand challenge focus is on Alzheimer's Disease and Related Dementias. The position will be located at The Roux Institute at Northeastern University, in Portland, Maine, where JAX has a co-located JAX Portland research site. The postdoc will contribute to and help lead projects related to the development and validation of models in the precision health domain that aim at diagnosing various types of disease and recommending optimal treatments for patients. The position will be supervised by Research Professors and will be conducted with experimental researchers who are collaborating partners of the Roux Institute and will include opportunities for collaboration with other faculty at the Roux Institute and other colleges at Northeastern University. This project will involve Alzheimer's disease and related dementias (ADRD) and the cerebrovascular deficits that occur prior to hallmark pathologies such as amyloid plaques and neurofibrillary tangles of TAU, neuronal dysfunction and cognitive decline. Tracking cerebrovascular health in at-risk, but cognitively normal individuals will greatly facilitate early detection of those most at risk of developing dementia, allowing the opportunity for early intervention. We are performing complementary human and mouse studies to evaluate plasma biomarkers in combination with retinal vascular health as biomarkers for ADRD. We are seeking a highly motivated individual to join this exciting collaborative research program that builds upon existing strengths in ADRD biology and genetics (JAX) and bioinformatics methods and machine learning approaches (Roux) to evaluate novel biomarkers for ADRD. MaineHealth Institute for Research Professional - Nonclinical This position is for someone interested in joining the research team within the Pinz Laboratory at the MaineHealth Institute for Research, Scarborough, ME. This Research Fellow will conduct a variety of complex laboratory procedures and will be able to conduct research under the guidance of Principal Investigator, Ilka Pinz. This Research Fellow will have a sufficient level of experience, expertise and independence to conduct a defined research project, including project inception and design, implementation, and completion; with reporting of results in a peer-reviewed forum consisting of oral and written presentation. Research in the Pinz Laboratory is focused primarily on caveolae membrane microdomains and their role in cardiovascular health as well as the adipose tissue - heart signaling axis via the release of extracellular vesicles. Our research uses loss-of-function mouse models and mutant caveolin protein expression to investigate the role of caveolins in cardiac contractile function, insulin sensitivity, exosome uptake and diabetic cardiomyopathy. We collaborate with clinicians to investigate the role of caveolae in patients with cardiovascular disease. The successful applicant has knowledge of cell transfection with mutated proteins, cell culture, Western blotting, and protein extractions. Experience with mouse models is a plus but not required. Some aspects of this work will be performed in our outstanding core facilities, and the successful applicant is expected to collaborate and communicate with other team members to coordinate these efforts.
