Scheduled Hours 37.5 The Biology Department at WashU in St Louis is seeking qualified applicants for a full-time Staff Scientist position in the laboratory of Kevin Cox. The position is funded through an HHMI grant to investigate the transcriptional regulation of cell-to-cell communication in plant stress response. The Cox Lab uses spatial and single-cell genomics, imaging, and molecular biology to uncover the spatial organization of genes in plants, with a core objective of unraveling the communication mechanisms within plant cells. The successful candidate will be a creative, critical thinking individual that will conduct transcriptomics experiments and techniques, as well as data analysis for this project. Position will require hands-on participation in all aspects of the core mission. Excellent communication skills are necessary for interactions with all academic ranks. Designs research protocols and assists in developing and conducting research projects, including experiment design, data analysis and documentation of experiment results. This is a service laboratory and provides detailed reports and invoices for individual projects. The Hybridoma Center - Monoclonal Antibody Development Core is a small core laboratory that assists investigators in the generation of novel, functional monoclonal antibodies. This group provides consultation on and project design of Immunization protocols, guidance on multi-tiered screening strategies and executes hybridoma isolation and cryopreservation. This laboratory is nationally recognized for its expertise in antibody development, ability to customize programs for investigators and engage and support client investigators throughout all phases of each project. Job Description Primary Duties & Responsibilities: * Following instructions and discussions with the principal investigator, designs research protocols, including developing procedures for the collection, verification and management of data. * Assists with grant preparation and reporting. * Performs complex statistical analysis of data collected and writes interpretative reports. Verifies the correctness of the data submitted and makes recommendations based on these analyses. * Documents research topics and prepares and submits papers based on research work to publications and committees for publication or presentation to peers. * Solves practical problems relating to difficulties with equipment or test subjects.
