After immigrating from Italy to America in 1961, he started out working at his uncle's Italian restaurant, Romano's, in Brooklyn.
His dream became a reality in 1967, when Anthony and his brothers opened Scotto's Pizzeria in Port Washington - a little pizzeria serving quality Italian comfort food.
In 1978, the family portfolio expanded to include the Chateau Briand (Carle Place), then a small catering facility, which they transformed into one of the region's leading venues.
In 1994, The Watermill (Smithtown) was acquired as the first venture outside of Scotto Brothers.
Edward J. DeBartolo Sr. was succeeded by his son, Edward J. DeBartolo Jr. in his business endeavors after his death in late 1994, and today, DeBartolo Holdings has moved away from the construction of public shopping spaces to pursue more private endeavors.
In 2016, Anthony Scotto purchased the historic Maine Maid Inn and completely renovated it to create Opus Steakhouse (Jericho), a chic new 20,000 square foot restaurant and catering venue, unlike anything on Long Island.
