SUMMARY: Operates multiple spindle lathe type screw machines equipped with automatic indexing and feeding mechanisms to machine metal bar stock by performing the following duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Reads blueprint or job order for product specifications such as dimensions, tolerances, number of parts to be machined, and tooling instructions such as cutting speeds, feed rates, depth of cuts, and cutting tools to be used.
- Positions and secures specified collets, bushings, and stock pushers onto stock feeding mechanism and loads bar stock into feeding mechanism.
- Installs and adjusts specified cams, gears, and stops to control stock and tool movements at each station.
- Positions and secures tools in tool holders.
- Sets cutting speeds and feed rates.
- Moves controls to cycle machine through settings, stopping machine and adjusting tool positions and machine controls to allow for operating factors such as timing, clearance between moving parts, and chip removal.
- Starts machine, observes operation, and inspects first run and sample work piece to ensure machining conforms to specifications.
- Replaces worn tools.
- Operates bench grinder to sharpen tools.
- Carry out work according to safety policies, OSHA standards and ISO requirements.
- Machines metal materials.
- Must have basic math skills (add, subtract, multiply, divide, convert to decimals, read measuring instruments.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED);
- or one to three months related experience and/or training
- or equivalent combination of education and experience.
HOURS:
- 1st Shift: 6:00am - 4:00pm (Monday to Thursday)
- 2nd Shift: 3:50pm - 3:05am (Monday - Wednesday); 3:50pm - 10:05pm (Thursday)

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Operates assigned single spindle automatic screw machines to perform a limited range of rough and finish turning, facing, boring, drilling, reaming, tapping threading, forming, and similar machining operations.
Performs the job of automatic screw machine operator with assistance, when required, from Team Leader or Troubleshooter
Operates machines at correct feeds and speeds, following standard operating procedures, producing good pieces within acceptable quality control limits per drawings.
Receives direction from Team Leader or Set-Up Person and works from detailed machine parts drawings, machine manuals, specifications, tool charts and instructions.
As inspection of parts indicates removes, sharpens, and resets tools, makes machine adjustments as necessary. Sets up and assists in setup of the screw machine.
Prior to operating screw machines at start of shift, moves parts produced by previous shift, if necessary, away from machines for pickup by the Material Handler or Shipping & Receiving personnel for transportation to be cleaned.
Checks to see that there is sufficient bar stock in holder (tube) to proceed and that bar stock is correct for the parts ordered.
Turns on machine and produces parts. Checks first stick from each machine produced for adherence to quality specifications. If pieces do not pass inspection, shuts off machines, and makes adjustments as needed to produce good parts.
Keeps bar stock holder (tube) full to prevent any loss of productivity due to stock running out of stock.
Inspects and gauges parts as per manufacturing procedures. Notifies Team Leader or Troubleshooter if parts are falling outside of drawing tolerances, and unable to make necessary adjustments.
Detects and reports faulty operations, defective material and equipment, drawing discrepancies and other unusual conditions to Team Leader or Troubleshooter.
Maintains work place area in a neat and orderly condition on a daily basis, and performs a general machine and work area cleanup daily.
Oils and greases machine, replaces coolant, and replaces tooling as required.
Keeps machine free of chips.
Makes out time, production, and quality reports as necessary. Manually or electronically.
Collaborates with operators from other shifts to transmit and exchange Information pertinent to the work at hand.
Performs other duties as required.
Hours:
Training 6 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday, then moves long-term to a 4 p.m.-3 a.m. shift or a 4:30 p.m.-5 a.m. shift
Requirements:
Must be able to stand throughout an entire shift (8-12 hours).
Must be able to bend forward, stretching forward, reaching into machine as needed to perform aforementioned job duties.
Visual acuity to read micrometers, inspect small parts, and adjust tooling.
Must be able to lift up to forty (40) pounds, ten (10) times throughout an entire shift.
Occasional lifting up to seventy-five (75) pounds
Will start working day shift (6 a.m.-4:30 p.m.) and after training switch to night shift (4:30 p.m.-3 a.m.)
