*Employment Type:* Part time *Shift:* Evening Shift *Description:* Shift Details: * Mid shift: 10:30 am - 7:00 pm EST. * Monday - Friday. * On-Call weekend rotation required. * In accordance with the Mission and Guiding Behaviors; the Supervisor Sterile Processing supports and assists the SPD Manager in providing 24-hour operations of the SPD service area. Meets or exceeds patient, physician, or other pertinent customer expectations. Assists in the selection, development and if required, corrective action of staff, in order to maintain competence and high-quality service or care. Develops, plans, implements, and evaluates educational programs to meet the needs of the Sterile Processing Department (SPD) and to aide in the professional development of staff. Assists the Surgical Services Manager with overall supervision and daily operations of the Sterile Processing Department. Evaluates workflow and makes staffing assignments. Assists the Manager in meeting productivity and labor expense targets. Oversees the training and competency of Sterile Processing Technicians. Recognizes and identifies the existence of problems or improvement opportunities and takes action to troubleshoot issues. Coordinates Quality Assurance programs and provides in-service and education opportunities for the department. *What you will do:* * Promotes a Culture of Safety by adhering to policy, procedures and plans that are in place to prevent workplace injury, violence or adverse outcome to associates and patients. * Relationship-based Care: Creates a caring and healing environment that keeps the patient and family at the center of care throughout their experience at Mount Carmel following the principles of our interdisciplinary care delivery system. * (For patient care providers) Provides nursing care, ensures an environment of patient safety, promotes evidence-based practice and quality initiatives, and exhibits professionalism in nursing practice within the model of the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program . * Maintains open and active communication with the medical staff, patient care staff and interdepartmental staff. * Coordinates daily work assignments, monitoring all processing areas. Maintains employee schedule ensuring adequate coverage for hours of operation and call coverage on weekends and Holidays. * Assists SPD Manager in evaluations of Sterile Processing staff. * Acts as liaison and facilitates communication between sterile processing and operating room personnel/nursing units. * Facilitates the processing of instrumentation and equipment, ensuring quality and customer satisfaction. Assist with collecting data for Quality Assurance. * Reviews operating room schedules, anticipating needs and/or conflicts with instrumentation, coordinating instrumentation for all procedures with operating room personnel. * Responsible for the daily review of all recording tapes and biological / chemical tests from all sterilizers and records results. Implements hospital policy and procedure for positive biological tests. * Monitors staff compliance with all required safety precautions. * Assumes responsibility of department in absence of Manager SPD * Coaches' staff and rounds with staff consistently. * Conducts staff meetings/huddles and provides educational opportunities for staff. * Ensures SPD policies and procedures are kept updated. * Ensures the competency of all SPD staff and other staff who may be involved in high level disinfection and/or sterilization in other areas. Maintains departmental education records in compliance with regulatory guidelines. * Oversees quality and infection control initiatives for SPD. * Provides a comprehensive and technical orientation, education and training program for the sterile processing staff. * Assists Manager with managing labor and supply components of the budget. * Assists Manager in organization functions of the department. * Assists Manager in conducting annual performance evaluations of SPD staff. * Assist the Manager with evaluation of the department's service delivery. Recommends and implements process improvements. * Responsible for all daily operations in the absence of the SPD Manager. * Develops educational calendar for all in-service training. Provides education and training to SPD staff. * Demonstrated leadership in directing and maintaining productive and positive behavior among staff. *Other Responsibilities:* * Position requires an individual who is self-motivated, able to complete assignments with minimal supervision. Attention to detail, quality of work, and ability to organize work are critical and vital factors. Independent problem solving, strongly recommended. * Must have a good working knowledge of Instruments, the operation/workings of the OR and be able to readily understand their issues and requests. Be able to speak the language of the OR. * Strong written and verbal communication skills. * Strong computer skills required including a working knowledge of MS Word, MS Powerpoint and MS Excel. * Self-starter, ability to work independently when required. Travel: Some travel; Required to travel by personal auto or company auto Summary of Functions: The Sterile Processing Technician (SPT) is responsible for the instruments used to facilitate organ, eye, and tissue donation, including the core responsibilities of decontamination, instrument wrapping, autoclave usage, and quality control release for recovery use. The SPT will be the subject matter expert for using the instrument washer, supplies utilized to support sterilization, and the areas for quality control release. The SPT will maintain a clean work environment and be responsible for cleaning the sterilization areas. The SPT will ensure that Central Supply Operations and Policy and Procedures relating to the functions described below are compliant with all regulatory requirements. Performs all duties and responsibilities in compliance with policies and procedures, regulations as outlined in the Code of Federal Regulations, and other applicable federal, state, and local laws. Duties and Responsibilities: Decontamination: 1. Processes used instruments through the decontamination process. 2. Restocks solutions used to clean the instruments and work space. 3. Loads and operates instrument washer and learns key functions of the machine, including powering machine on/off, cycle settings and adjustments, notifications of machine issues, and how to tag the equipment as inoperable following OneLegacy P&Ps. 4. Oversees solution maintenance, including communication when solution stock levels fall below par levels for reordering, preparation of solutions, and proper disposal of solutions prior to expiration. Sterilization: 1. Inspects and ensures instruments have been thoroughly washed. 2. Utilizes correct wrapping technique for instrument type, and include protective coverings as applicable. 3. Loads the autoclave machine using the correct load configuration based on instrument types. 4. Verifies the autoclave is running appropriately for specified cycle. If the autoclave cycle fails or aborts, the SPT is responsible for communication to management for guidance on corrective action for the machine. 5. Documents all activities associated with the use of the autoclave for sterilization procedures as outlined in OneLegacy P&Ps. 6. Communicates with management for inventory stock replenishment. Quality Control Release: 1. Safely removes instruments from autoclave and places instruments to quarantine hold. 2. Documents instruments undergoing biological indicator quarantine hold. 3. Initiates biological indicator testing process. 4. Reads and interprets results of biological indicator process. 5. Releases or rejects instruments appropriately as determined by biological indicator process. Central Supply Operations Tasks: 1. Participates in rotating and shelving items, tracking inventory levels and discarding outdated items to ensure adequate levels for clinical readiness. 2. Participates in med gas tank rotation and monitoring to ensure adequate air supply is available. 3. Arranges sharpening and repairing of instruments as needed or required. 4. Ensures cleanliness of Central Supply areas at each OneLegacy facility as outlined in OneLegacy's Policies and Procedures. 5. Performs inspections of all OneLegacy recovery facilities; frequency of inspections is at the discretion of management. Secondary Duties: 1. Attends all department staff meetings, annual hazard communication and control safety training sessions for Cal-OSHA, contract processors, and other training programs as deemed necessary by the Project Manager of Organs and Tissue Operations 2. Performs all duties and responsibilities in compliance with policies and procedures, regulations as outlined in the Code of Federal Regulations, and other applicable federal, state and local laws. 3. Performs quality control practices as defined by the policies and procedures. 4. Supports the organization's Standards of Professional Conduct as outlined in the OneLegacy Employee Handbook, and the mission, vision and values. 5. Performs all other duties as assigned. 6. Head cover Job Qualifications and Requirements: Education: Associates Degree from a two year college, completion of Surgical Technologist, EMT program, or equivalent training in an affiliated health field required. Experience: A minimum of two years of experience in sterile processing is preferred. Certification/License: OneLegacy requires employees to maintain a current California driver's license and current vehicle insurance. Requirement: Employee must be able to pass a local government agency (coroner's office) background check. Equipment: Reliable automotive transportation required. Salary Range: $43,680-$53,955.20 The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, OneLegacy considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions. The primary responsibility of the Central Sterile Processing Technician is to prevent the growth and cross contamination of harmful microorganisms that will cause a negative effect for our patients, doctors, staff members, HPMC internal and external customers, and to themselves. This position accomplishes the primary responsibility by ensuring that all surgical instruments, scopes, power equipment, and sterilization containers are properly inventoried, decontaminated, inspected, assembled, packaged (containerized, wrapped, or peel packed), sterilized, and stored in the correct environment in a quality/time manner. Our main customers are Main Surgery, Labor and Delivery, and other areas that require sterile instrumentation. Performs duties as a CSPD tech independently, works proficiently without constant supervision and when competent helps train new employees. Identifies and uses appropriate methods and solutions to sort, disassemble, decontaminate, rinse, and disinfect instruments, scopes, surgical power tools, and clinical equipment. Operates and troubleshoots cleaning equipment. Appropriately handles garbage, linen, and bio-hazardous materials. Maintains safety standards within the decontamination area. Consistently uses recipes (count sheets) to correctly assemble, protect, wrap containerize and/or peel package and label instruments. Identifies and inspects instruments for cleanliness and functionality. Knows and follows correct principles of sterilization. Selects appropriate sterilization methods. Properly documents and verifies sterilization loads and biological tests to determine the efficacy of the sterilization process is required. Performing HLD (high level disinfection) is required (will train).score: N/A Contacts BIOMED if sterilizers are not functioning properly, informs manager of CSPD, and surgery.
