Discipline Description
Engineering - Multidiscipline personnel typically own a multidiscipline engineering related work scope. Responsibilities are within the Engineering Function as a generalist or in a combination of disciplines.
Some Typical Duties & Responsibilities Include:
The Engineering Organization is looking for entry level engineers to develop conventional solutions to technical task objectives within various SRNS facility engineering organizations. Engineers will: Learn SRNS and specific Department/Facility systems and requirements for accomplishing tasks. Assist more senior technical personnel in performing related activities in more complex tasks. Perform the following tasks relative to specific facility operations:
* Discipline specific ownership and maintenance of the
following types of systems among others:
- Nuclear Chemical and Industrial Unit Operations
- Industrial Mechanical systems (Nuclear and Non-nuclear
HVAC, Rotating Equipment)
- Instrumentation and Control Systems
- Utilities (Power Distribution, Steam, Water Compressed
Gases)
- Civil/Structural (Buildings, Roads, Bridges, Dams)
- Fire Protection Systems
* Specific day to day tasks may include:
- Work directly with operations and maintenance personnel to maintain system operability
- System Configuration Control to include minor design

Operational Technology Engineering is looking for Engineers with interest in Process Systems, Process Controls, Web App Development, and Simulation & Modeling
Recent college graduates will initially be placed in the Engineering Leadership Development Program (ELDP). They will receive one-on-one career development assistance from seasoned professionals from different backgrounds and will be collocated with other new hires allowing for peer group connection. They will begin their technical training as well as be given project assignments that will provide them with exposure to different facilities and site work processes.

The Building Design and Construction Division is an award-winning organization responsible for implementing all major building, renovation and major capital renewal projects identified in the Fairfax County Capital Improvement Program, including fire stations, libraries, courts, police stations, office buildings, maintenance facilities, parking structures, human services facilities and other major infrastructure and public-private partnership projects.
This management position works in the Building Construction Branch of the Building Design and Construction Division, Capital Facilities in Fairfax County Government Center at 12000 Government Center Parkway, Fairfax, Virginia.
This position is responsible for timely completion, construction budgets, and the overall quality of assigned projects. As the manager of a section of construction managers, solves complex design or construction problems, supervises the administration of construction contracts to avoid, mitigate, and resolve contractor claims. Provides technical constructability reviews during all phases of design, coordinates with all stakeholders during construction. Performs all aspects of construction contract bidding, award, and administration. Evaluates pre-qualification requirements for prospective bidders, analyzes safety records, conducts pre-bid meetings, prepares final bid documents, issues contract awards, and conducts pre-construction meetings. Reviews and approves contractor payments, reviews proposed change orders for entitlement, prepares cost estimates, negotiates change orders, reviews shop drawings, ensures timely and appropriate RFI responses, issues field orders, RFPs, and CCDs. You will ensure that the mechanical and domestic systems are maintained in fine working order, implementing preventative maintenance plans, identifying challenges to safe and efficient operation, making repairs, and maintaining guidelines, standard operating procedures and log books. You will be responsible for keeping mechanical areas neat and organized, ensuring that tools are in good working order and the inventory of necessary supplies is up-to-date. You will create and manage work lists, assigning and supervising various tasks while training less experienced crew, volunteers, and trainees in those tasks and in seamanship in general.
Additionally, you will assist in the interpretation of the ship, offering museum guests a glimpse into life aboard a 19th century sailing vessel. You will assist in keeping the ship, shop and berthing area clean, tidy and presentable to museum guests and the general public.

Job Description
ENGINEERING - SUMMER SEASONAL
The position is responsible to assist the Engineering staff by conducting inspections, surveys, measuring quantities, collecting and implementing GIS data, mapping assistance, preparing reports and calculations, and performing research for various project types which may include roadway paving, stormwater, water and sewer, parking lot, sidewalk, and curb and gutter improvements for public and private construction. The positions will receive direction, guidance, and mentoring from technical and management staff within the Development Services - Engineering department.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Provides inspection and oversight of the installation of public improvement projects and coordinates with City staff on related work.
Performs on-site inspections to ensure conformance with engineering principles and construction standards.
Assist staff with GIS attribute data collection and data entry
Update existing GIS attribute data and migration of historic data
Consults with engineers to discuss and resolve design and construction problems. Communicates with contractors and developers to coordinate construction activities and resolve construction problems.
Composes correspondence and reports to contractors, developers and/or residents as needed to direct and/or coordinate improvement project completion.
Assist with plan and calculations review associated with subdivisions, planned developments, and private developments.
Uses photos and written reports to document existing conditions and compliance/conformance of work.
Ensures compliance with Woodstock's Public Improvement Standards and Details, standard specifications for public works construction, including but not limited to: earthwork, sanitary sewers and water lines, irrigation pipes, storm drains, streetlights, electric, telephone, and dry utility trenches, paving and concrete flatwork, and bridges and structures.
Monitors trenching for alignment and grade, manhole locations and compaction. Checks pipes, valves, and fire hydrants for proper location, type and operations. Monitors conflicts with other utilities.
Inspects forms for curbs, gutters, sidewalks, ADA ramp compliance, and driveways.
Reads and interprets engineering plans, specifications, and details, utility maps, work zone safety plans, and related plans and drawings for constructability to ensure compliance with project plans and specifications, and/or to advise contractors or developers of changes necessary for compliance.
Compiles a punch list and monitors completion of punch list items.
Works cooperatively with other City personnel on projects that involve and/or require involvement of other City departments.
Answers and directs telephone calls. Takes and relays messages.
Photocopies printed materials and runs blueprints. Faxes messages.
Retrieves project files and searches for backup information.
Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or equivalent
Currently pursuing a degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, GIS or other closely related field
Completed at least one academic year of college coursework
At least 18 years of age.
A valid Illinois driver's license and good driving record
Strong written and oral communication skills

PAY RATE
