    What we are looking for SCS Engineers is looking for a summer 2026 intern for our San Diego, CA office. This opportunity offers valuable hands-on experience in both technical engineering and business operations through a diverse range of client projects while giving you the chance to explore the beginnings of your own career path. As an intern, you'll work alongside experienced professionals on projects centered around solid waste. You will be involved in design support for landfills and landfill gas systems, permitting, construction plans and construction oversight. You will include field days at time, but the field will provide a great learning opportunity. You will typically work 40 hours per week. How you can make an impact You will contribute to our projects by assisting SCS project teams with the following tasks: Assist other staff in overseeing drilling activities involving probe and well installation, borehole logging, well development, well construction, monitoring, and sampling. Conduct and document construction quality assurance observations and similar construction inspections for compliance with design plans, specification, and construction documents. Compile data and help prepare portions of reports, progressing toward the ability to prepare complete reports, such as: environmental site assessment, emissions, monitoring, groundwater/soil investigation, compliance, and other project reporting. Help prepare permit applications and regulatory agency submittals and responses with supporting documentation as requested, including research of regulatory requirements. Compile data and prepare basic calculations for reports and to support design documents or other studies. Environmental and construction materials sample collection Laboratory data management and review Surveying CAD drafting Qualifications Currently pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in engineering or science and graduating by June 2028 required. Must be willing to live in the San Diego area for Summer 2026 (housing allowance will not be provided) Solid technical and computer skills (Excel and Word experience required, GIS preferred but not necessary) Valid driver's license with a driving record in good standing required Ability to travel overnight for work outside of an office setting may be required. Detailed Description * Advise project teams involved in design-build and related projects, either in a contractor role, designer role, or both, as to appropriate contractual terms in a variety of settings. * Review RFPs and the associated contracts, provide contract risk assessments including proposed contract changes and exceptions and suggest risk mitigation measures. * Be responsible to draft and review a variety of agreements, including NDAs, teaming agreements, joint ventures, prime contracts, and subcontracts. * Maintain close working relationships with applicable leadership team, sales and delivery managers, other members of the legal department, as well as other internal core services groups necessary to achieve comprehensive review and risk assessment (cybersecurity, tax, insurance, etc.). * Serve as one of the organization's contacts to address questions related to existing contracts and contract processes. * Prioritize between multiple projects on a time-sensitive basis. Proficient use of RISA 3D, SAP 2000, ETABs, Structure Point, Mathcad or MS Excel or similar software to perform structural analysis. Knowledge of the latest building codes and material design standards including but not limited to California Building Code, ASCE 7, ASCE 41, ACI 318, AISC, TMS, etc. Proficient in design of structural steel, reinforced concrete, and masonry structures. Liquid retaining structures, wood and cold-formed steel design experience is a plus. Experience in analysis of structures governed by high wind or high seismic loads. Experience in analysis of equipment anchorage and utility supports for seismic loads. Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the design of deliverables including general arrangement drawings, electrical equipment plan & elevation drawings, above & below grade conduit & grounding drawings, relay house layout and complete bill of materials. The position will work under the direction of a senior engineer and will report directly to the Substation Engineering Manager or Lead Engineer. Responsibilities Responsibilities Perform substation physical design activities including drawings, specifications, and bill of materials. Perform careful self-checking activities to ensure the quality of work before it is presented to senior design reviewers. Prepare computer assisted design and construction drawings of a complex nature with neatness and a minimum of errors. Assist in the development of engineering calculations such as conduit and bus sizing, lighting & lightning analysis, and grounding grid analysis. Ensure all designs conform to our client's and industry standards. Communicate and coordinate project activities with senior engineer and/or project manager.
