As a Senior Engineer/Project Director, you will lead interactions with clients, develop the technical skills of highly motivated junior staff, and oversee design and permitting teams with the ability to serve as the Engineer of Record on projects for public and private clients.
Responsibilities include engineering design, client communications, project management, and staff coordination. Project responsibility will have a primary focus on solid waste management, including landfill gas, landfills and landfill infrastructure, composting, transfer stations, and other projects, which may require design, engineering, permitting, construction, and operations support. You will be expected to be hybrid in the Tampa office.
How you can make an impact
You will support SCS's strategic business objectives and critical infrastructure projects:
Apply intensive and diversified knowledge of engineering and scientific principles in solid waste and related fields such as landfill operations, landfill gas collection and control system, industrial wastewater, and stormwater permitting and design, including overseeing the preparation of construction plans, specifications, and construction documents.
Provide technical guidance on unusual or complex engineering, operations, and regulatory challenges.
Complete quality control reviews on all work products (reports, design plans, design calculations, data, etc.) prior to submission.
Coordinate with GIS and CAD drafters for design plans/figures or use AutoCAD or ArcGIS for basic design plans/figures.
Business development including but not limited to: proposal preparation, meeting with clients, and attending industry-related conferences/trade shows.
Work both independently and on teams to resolve engineering challenges, plan and coordinate work, and represent SCS at meetings, trade shows, and conferences.
Responsible for achieving set revenue, profit, and client satisfaction goals.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or related engineering degree is required.
P.E. or P.G. registration required (preferably Florida) or ability to obtain reciprocity in Florida within 6 months.
A minimum of 12 years of relevant experience specific to the solid waste industry such as landfill gas management, air compliance, landfill design and permitting, landfill operations support, or compost facility operations is required.
A minimum of 2 years of consulting experience required.
Experience managing project financials and leading technical teams.
Knowledge of applicable regulations, regulatory agencies, and permitting requirements.
Valid driver's license with a driving record in good standing is required.
Pay Range USD $100,000.00 - USD $150,000.00 /Yr. How you can make an impact
You will reduce greenhouse gas emissions and support civil and environmental project work including:
Landfill, landfill gas collection and control system, industrial wastewater, and stormwater permitting and design, including construction plans, specifications, and construction documents.
Prepare solid waste facility and environmental control system infrastructure permit applications and/or regulatory agency submittals and develop responses with supporting documentation.
Collect samples from hazardous and non-hazardous sites, including soil, air, surface water, groundwater, and landfill gas.
Oversee drilling activities involving monitoring and well installation, borehole logging, well development, and sampling.
Conduct and document construction quality assurance observations to ensure compliance with construction documents.
Complete quality control reviews on all work products (reports, design plans, design calculations, data, etc.) prior to submission.
Independently coordinate with contractors, subcontractors, and clients with project manager support and oversite.
Effectively communicate with other technical professionals in a team setting to achieve client goals.

Our Sarasota office has an opportunity available for a Driller Trainee. The starting pay rate is $17 per hour plus depending on applicable experience. A sign-on bonus up to $1,000 may be available.
A driller trainee will assist the crew chief in solid auger and rotary drilling techniques. The trainee will help move, set up and operate drill rigs and related equipment to drill test borings for geotechnical engineering studies. Working as part of a team, the successful candidate will assist with ecological field assessments for projects in the mining, energy, and commercial development industries. Primary tasks will include protected species surveys, vegetative monitoring, hydrologic monitoring, water quality sampling and support with other ecological assessments, as well as reporting. The ideal candidate should have a strong knowledge of the natural resources of Florida and a minimum of 2-5 years of applicable job experience.
Candidate should also possess strong time management, problem solving, communication, organizational skills, and have relevant computer/software experience. This position requires solid technical writing and verbal communication skills, including coordination with team members and project managers, as well as periodically with clients and regulatory agency staff.
Candidate will be required to go through and obtain an MSHA New Miner Training certificate as part of on-the-job training.
This position is anticipated to be 70% field work/30% office work. Travel (local/overnight) may account for up to 30%.
The ability to travel, both within Florida and nationwide, and a clear driving record are also required. Potential candidates should be able to work effectively in both team environments and with limited supervision. Candidates should have availability to work outside of typical business hours. Flexibility in daily work schedule and willingness to work long hours in adverse environmental conditions and in remote areas is required.
Qualifications:
A bachelor's degree in the natural resources (i.e. biological, zoology, botany, ecology or environmental science).
Minimum of 2+ years of experience as a natural resources professional is required.
Strong preference may be given to candidates having a FFWCC Gopher Tortoise Authorized Agent permit for surveying, bucket trapping and mechanical excavations.
Proficiency in use of Avenza, ESRI Field maps, a sub-meter GPS and data processing is also desired.
Experience operating a 4x4 truck preferred.
