POSITION SUMMARY: In this function, an individual performs within operational procedures that have been developed and has the authority and the ability to interpret and apply laws and regulations to case scenarios and maintain working relationships with customers, attorneys, insurance companies and local authorities. Assignments are generally broad in scope with frequent opportunity for exercising independent judgment in making claims management decisions subject to final review and approval by Claims Supervisor and Claims Manager. Minimum one (1) year of recent experience as a claim's adjuster working with handling cargo, property, casualty, contents or auto claims.
Must possess a general understanding of the usage of a diary-based system to move claims along towards completion.
Knowledge of insurance and claims legal vocabulary in order to understand the nature of cargo claims.
Knowledge of techniques of investigation, adjustment, negotiation and settlement.
Must have intermediate computer skills in programs such as MS Word, Excel & Outlook, etc.
Must have advanced communication skills (reading, writing & speaking) both in English and Spanish in order to communicate at different levels throughout the organization, exterior organizations, out port offices, attorneys, etc.
Possess strong analytical skills.
Possess organizational and time management skills with ability to prioritize and be detail oriented.
Ability to conduct effective negotiations with claimants, attorneys and insurance carriers.
Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely, verbally and in writing.
Ability to analyze define problems, collect data, establish facts, and exercise sound judgment in drawing valid conclusions.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Primary
Plan, organizes and reviews the investigation, negotiation and preparation of settlement recommendations of a variety of insurance claims; reviews accident reports, losses and litigation claims, reefer claims; and provides intra-company personnel with technical advice and assistance.
Manages highly complex investigation of claims, including coverage issues liability, compensability and damages
Manages all types investigative activity or litigation or litigation on major claims, including the posting of appropriate reserves in a timely manner
Monitoring claims to ensure file handling is compliant with established standards.
Analyzes claims activities; prepare and present reports to management and other internal business partners and clients.
Miscellaneous tasks to include assignment of survey inspections and provide support in a collaborative effort as needed to department manager as well as co-workers.
Attend seminars and workshops to ascertain new development and/or further skills relating to required duties.
Provides guidance and assistance to less experienced claims staff and other functional areas.
Handling of the duty phone on a rotational basis

POSITION SUMMARY: Responsible for preparing the vessels and crew members for arrival and clearance to and from the Port of Miami. This role involves coordinating with port authorities, customs, immigration, and other stakeholders to facilitate all operational and regulatory requirements for the vessel and its crew. Clearing crew members with Federal authorities to enter and exit the vessels.
Notifies all Federal Authorities (Coast Guard and CBP) of the vessels ninety-six (96) hours prior to vessel arrival into the ports.
Reports if there are any stowaways or illegal contraband (i.e. drugs) to the Coast Guard.
Notifies vessels prior to arrival into the ports of MARSEC (Marine Security) level in effect.
Boards the vessels upon arrival and thereafter when needed.
Clears the vessels with CBP and Agriculture authorities.
Prepares lay orders and other related documents necessary for vessel entry into the port(s).
Arranges for berth, pilotage, tugs, linesmen, surveyors and other related vendors.
Arranges & performs crew off & on-signing and arranges medical services, delivery of spare parts, charts, shipyard services.
Prepares POM vessel reports (detailed inbound and southbound cargo) on a weekly basis.
Prepares statement of facts and other related documentation (Bs/L, Certs of Origin, NOR, etc.).
Generates & responds to vessel, owner/operator/chartered and other parties before and during vessels stay via phone, e-mail, telex & fax.
Keeps & reports daily labor working activities and cargo production operations of vessel during port stay.
Travels to several different port facilities to attend vessels while in port.
Develops a thorough and current knowledge of each port facility serviced (berth restrictions, cargo working equipment availability, labor, transport, security restrictions, etc).
Secondary
Picking up crew members from the airport and taking them to the airport as needed.
Reports all injuries/incidents to authorities and takes the crew members for medical attention (hospital or local clinic).
Reports any oil or chemical spills on the vessels to the corresponding authorities.
Performs additional related duties as assigned.

Lead, supervise, and work with mechanical personnel in the repair service and maintenance of containers, chassis, flat racks and other related equipment.
Inspect, test, and measure completed work on container, chassis, and flat rack equipment, using devices such as hand tools or gauges to verify conformance to standards or repair requirements.
Verify that the Equipment Operators are servicing the mechanics in a timely manner throughout the day.
Coordinate Container department work and determine priorities for mechanics by size and class (open top, auto parts, food grade, etc.) to meet operational demand.
Coordinate shop work and determine priorities for mechanics, keeping the preventative maintenance program as the main goal.
Ensure that the Container and Chassis departments are adequately staffed daily and shifts duties accordingly to cover absences.
Coordinate extra assistance staff for other departments and track overtime hours per employee.
Coordinate services of mobile mechanics when equipment issues arise offsite.
Ensure that the preventive maintenance (PM) program and Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) inspections on all chassis or containers are completed on an annual basis.
Follow the Institute of International Container Lessors (IICL) guidelines as required by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), to assure the safe operating condition of all chassis, and flat racks.
Complete daily inventory of available green-tagged equipment (containers, chassis and flat racks) and report it to the Dispatch department.
Assist with the weekly dry container inventory by size and category.
Oversees the cleaning and organization of the shop, parts room and other areas of the shop.
Respond to container and chassis accidents when needed.
Assist with shop related training needs.
Requests special orders for parts through catalog ordering and submits requests to replace old or purchase new tools to the Mechanics Manager.
Ensure that the information of preventive maintenance performed is entered in the Distribution System Technology (DST) computer database or hand-held computer.
Inspect and monitor work areas, examine tools and equipment, and provide employee safety training and weekly safety toolbox meetings to prevent, detect, and correct unsafe conditions or violations of procedures and safety rules.
Maintain a clean and safe work environment at all times by cleaning, organizing, removing safety hazards, oil spills, spare parts, etc. within container chassis/container repair shop operations.
Maintain awareness of surroundings (i.e. vehicles, people checking equipment, etc.) at all times.
Reconcile employee timecards on a weekly basis to include missing punches, lunch cancellation, overtime approval, floating holidays, etc.
Assist in the completion of performance evaluations of mechanic personnel.
Secondary
Perform skilled repair or maintenance operations, using equipment such as hand or power tools, hydraulic presses or shears, or welding equipment.
Overhaul, rebuilds and repairs container chassis and containers including but not limited to performing repair, chassis repair, suspension repair and electrical components repair as needed.
Operate equipment (9K and 52K forklifts and mule) to move container, flat racks or chassis as needed.
Determine reason for part and component failures and replaces or repairs as required.
Serve as a back-up to the M&R Manager to oversee the preparation of over-the-road equipment for weekend use.

Provide support to operations across multiple inbound groups, including Miami, NE, and Gulf.
Ensure that all pertinent documentation per shipment received are filed in the shared outlook folder in the proper vessel for record keeping and retrieval.
Respond to calls and emails in a timely and professional manner to include communicate verbally and in writing with customers and with coworkers in the US and abroad with tact, courtesy, and in a positive manner.
Perform review of documentation to ensure that all out ports adhere to government regulations.
Check that cargo is properly released by government agencies.
Coordinate with credit and collections on the handling of customers with credit and any necessary corresponding payments.
Review bills of lading, delivery orders, and ocean freight payment plus any additional charges prior to release. Coordinate with the auditing department for additional charges.
Schedule delivery date and times and release to transportation teams.
Inform the refrigeration mechanics of all equipment that is to be delivered over the road and by railroad in order to prepare for transportation.
Inform customers of any delays and/or damages.
Close all vessels within the time frame provided by U.S. Customs for cargo releases.
Prepare G.O. Paperwork for all the cargo that has not been cleared within the time provided by U.S. Customs. Send all cargoes to appropriate G.O. warehouse.
Bonded Cargo:
Prepare paperless documentation (CF7512) and validate with U.S. Customs by transmitting the bonds and monitor releases in the system.
Keep transportation department informed of bond numbers.
Perishable Cargo:
Make sure that CPP (USDA) properly releases all cargoes. Inform customers/brokers of any cargo held by CPP (USDA). Assure that the customer is informed if fumigation is required.
If the cargo requires fumigation, find out if it requires re-stacking with the agriculture inspector. If it requires re-stacking, find out if it is a minor or major.
Schedule re-stacking with CPP (USDA). Also, coordinate with operations to schedule re-stacking crew. If a major re-stacking is required, request from Reefer department another refrigerated equipment to load the overflow. Prepare work order for the operations department for the re-stacking.
Request from customers, an authorization letter to prepare cargo for fumigation and temperature setting.
Send the reefer department notification in regard to temperature setting.
Coordinate with re-stacking crew when it is completed.
Coordinate the fumigation of the cargo with the fumigation company. Prepare and send to them a letter of authorization.
Coordinate with dispatch the move to the fumigation site and release it in the system to them.
Coordinate with the CPP (USDA) fumigation inspector when the fumigation process is completed. Inform customer and send pick up instructions via computer to dispatch. Inform auditing department of additional charges.
Customer Service:
Heavy phone communications answering any questions and informing customers of situations. Helping customers with U.S. Custom's clearances, CPP (USDA) procedures, etc.
Coordinate transfers of damaged equipment with operations. Obtain authorization from customers and contact a surveyor to be present when necessary.
Coordinate availability for the LTL cargo with the warehouse. Releasing cargo to the warehouse via the AS400.
Send the warehouse work orders on all LTL.
