Seattle Pacific University began its history in the late 19th century as
the Seattle Seminary. A member of the Christian College Consortium, SPU
maintains its roots in the Free Methodist Church while catering to the
diverse needs of its student body. Seattle Pacific's extensive academics include over 50 undergraduate
programs, from Christian theology to food and nutritional sciences. At
SPU, you can also design your own major. This program is mainly intended
for particularly driven students interested in interdisciplinary study. The university's graduate school offers nearly 20 programs, many of which
are geared toward education, psychology, and theology. Among these is the
unique Master of Education in Literacy, which focuses exclusively on the
mastery and teaching of reading. SPU supports its students with abundant financial aid. Many of the
institutional scholarships are based on academics, but there are also
ministry service, performing arts, and athletic scholarships available. Student life at Seattle Pacific includes several student organizations
and programs. For example, the Center for Career and Calling exists to
help students organize their career aspirations after school. The school
has four residential halls, as well as apartment-style housing, so there
