Seattle Pacific University company history timeline

1891

Seattle Pacific University was founded in 1891 by Free Methodist pioneers to train missionaries for overseas service.

1905

In 1905, a new administration building was added, later named Peterson Hall after founder Nils Peterson.

1915

Two years later, the name was changed again to Seattle Pacific College, with five students becoming SPC's first graduating class in 1915.

In 1915, it became Seattle Pacific College and produced its first five graduates.

1940

In 1940, the college partnered with the city of Seattle to develop Nils Peterson's sand pit on 3rd Avenue W into the Queen Anne Bowl playfield.

1955

Camp Casey, a 155-acre campus for outdoor education on Whidbey Island, was acquired in 1955.

2001

In 2001, SPU offered 52 undergraduate majors, 40 minors, 11 master's degree programs and two doctoral programs.
