Seattle Tilth company history timeline
That began to change in 1974.
In 1978, Mike Maki organized the first local chapter: Southwest Washington Tilth.
After countless meetings and several attempts, their work resulted in The Washington Organic Food Products Act, Chapter 15.86 RCW, enacted in 1985.
By 1988, WSDA had certified 68 organic farms and approximately 2,000 acres as organic.
In April 2002 the WSDA Organic Program received USDA accreditation, giving WSDA nationally-recognized organic certification.
Tilth Alliance was created in 2016 from the merger of Tilth Producers, Cascade Harvest Coalition and Seattle Tilth — three organizations with over 90 combined years of work contributing to Washington State’s local and sustainable food movement.
In November of 2020, the Collaborative launched Eat Local First and the Washington Food & Farm Finder.
In 2021, WA FarmLink was adopted by WA Farmland Trust.
