1. Have the ability to comprehend and utilize blueprints, sketches, drawings, technical

manuals, and work process instruction.

2. Welds steel plates and pipe in the repair and/or construction of marine vessels, industrial components, and associated equipment.

3. Have the skills to use various types of welding equipment for different types of metal.

4. Welds components in a flat, vertical, or overhead positions.

5. Performs related tasks such as cutting and grinding.

6. Repairs broken or cracked parts, fills holes, and increases size of metal parts.

Position Summary:

We are seeking a highly dynamic Welder for our Second Shift. This position performs welding on most equipment fabricated at our Zelienople facility while learning to be proficient in all equipment. Learn to tack and fit as needed in the shop.

Our second shift works a four-day schedule from Monday through Thursday. The hours are 2:00 PM – 12:30 AM with a $2.00 Shift Premium!

Responsibilities:

• Review project assignment and instructions from Team Leader

• Review drawings and welding details for this job.

• Participate in tier meetings

• Obtain understanding of task and develop action plan

• Set up welding machine and other required equipment

• Weld assemblies per the required standards

• Ensure work meets quality standards

• Practice safety in all aspects of the job and participate in safety improvement programs

• Look for Safety Issues with equipment and processes

• Understand the Principles of Lean Manufacturing (5S System should be followed in their work area)

• Participate in Kaizen(focused improvement) projects

• Learn best practices from team leaders and other team members to improve your knowledge and skill levels.

• Recommend process improvements on idea boards

• Consistently look for ways to eliminate waste

Qualifications:

• High School diploma or GED required

• A combination of training and welding experience is required for this position

• Ability to consistently produce high quality welds on all fabricated components

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Ability to pass AWS D1.1 welding qualifications as well as AWS D14.6 if it applies to their shop

Join HII Marine Services Operations in Chesapeake, VA in supporting U.S. Naval shipboard operations with maintenance and modernization efforts. This Welder: Second Class position will have you working closely with our skilled trades teams, utilizing various tools of the trade, removing, installing and upgrading industrial equipment for fleet modernization alterations and installations. Selected candidate will be required to travel to shipyards and military bases located around the country and abroad when not assigned to a local task. Per Diem provided based on location when on travel. Travel and lodging expenses are covered by the company.

What You Will Do…

* Display levels of quality, integrity, safety, respect, engagement and performance consistent with company values.
* Work from blueprints, engineering sketches, charts or work orders.
* Lay out and mark points on parts or subassemblies using rule, square, scribe or templates.

* Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD secret security clearance, and maintain clearance level throughout employment.
* Must be able to obtain base access credentials within 60 days of start date, and maintain credentials throughout employment.
* Must be able to travel between 50% - 75% when not assigned to local tasking.
* Must be able to provide hand tools per trades designation.

Preferred: Bonus Points For…

* Candidates with pipe welding experience on marine vessels and associated systems preferred.
* Combination pipe and structural welders preferred.
* Candidates who are currently enrolled or have graduated from and/or completed a vocational school or skilled trades certificate program are preferred.

Physical Requirements

Must be able to lift, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes. The exact weight requirements will be determined by the specific job, but no less than 30 lbs. Able to work on and climb ladders, work in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards, under industrial conditions and in confined spaces. Able to perform other duties as required which may involve high heat, humidity, noise and dirty conditions, working aloft or over the sides of vessels. May ride ships at sea for extended periods. May require wearing a respirator. Travel may be required within and outside of the continental United States.
