Secondary teacher job description

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Valid Michigan teaching certification with a Secondary 6-12 endorsement in Math or Science . Must meet highly qualified status according to the Michigan Department of Education for the subjects being taught. If applicant is not already a certified teacher, applicant will go through an alternative teaching program in order to become certified in one of the above areas.

Training: Must participate in and complete annual training, Professional Development, and various other training as deemed appropriate for position.

Other Qualifications: Must pass criminal history records search, physical and drug screen, if required.

Pay: $40,000.00 - $62,600 per year, DOE

The contracted teaching days will be 185 days/school year.

We are currently conducting a search for outstanding Secondary Content Area Teachers with a strong knowledge in their content area to join our faculty.

. Prepare and deliver an academically rigorous course of study and aligned to our charter goals and the New York State Common Core Standards.

. Assure high levels of student engagement and achievement in accordance with our charter school's performance benchmarks.
. Communicate high academic and behavioral expectations to our scholars
Create a classroom environment conducive to optimizing teaching and learning
. Manage classrooms, collect and analyze student performance data
Maintain constructive relationships with administration, peers, staff, parents and students
. Actively participate in professional development activities and participate in reflective practice and implement strategies to improve teaching and learning
. Maintain a professional appearance and deportment.
. Complete all classroom and school assignments and responsibilities in a timely and effective manner.
. Work autonomously within school established guidelines and policies.
Respond appropriately to evaluative feedback and changes in the work setting.
. Build collaborative relationships with colleagues, share teaching insights, and coordinate student learning.

Qualifications:
The minimum qualifications for this position are a Bachelor's degree and 1-2 years of high school teaching experience preferred, or experience teaching at the college level. The completion or enrollment in a graduate education program of study, demonstrated mastery of subject area to be taught. A Masters in Education or a related field is a plus. Certification is a plus.
