What is a securities counselor and how to become one

3 min read

Security counselors assist people living in rehabilitation centers, group homes, or other assisted living conditions. They are responsible for the safety of the facilities, accompanying visitors, and checking the rooms of inhabitants for items that are not approved by the house rules.

You will be collaborating with social workers and other professionals working at the institution. You will help residents perform their everyday tasks, such as doing laundry, cooking, or cleaning. You might be responsible for transportation as well, or accompanying residents to various appointments. You will be there to intervene in emergency situations, providing safety for the public and stability for the residents under your care.

This is an entry-level position you can take on with a GED or a high school diploma. For advanced human services positions, you might need a degree in social work or a related area. Being certified in first aid interventions might be necessary to get hired, and a driver's license is also often required.
