Job Summary

We are seeking a mid-level Environmental, Health, Safety & Security (EHSS) Specialist to support our multi-site operations. This role focuses on ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, managing safety programs, and promoting a culture of health, safety, and security. The ideal candidate will have experience in general industry safety, industrial hygiene, emergency management, and security, with exposure to EV battery safety preferred.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
* Regulatory Compliance & Policy Management
* Develop, update, and enforce Environmental, Health, Safety and Security (EHSS) policies and procedures.
* Ensure compliance with federal and state regulations (EPA, EGLE, California-specific laws).
* Manage environmental permits and reporting requirements, including Title V Renewable Operating Permit (ROP), air permits, wastewater permits, hazardous material storage/disposal, and SDS reporting.
* Maintain all required records and documentation; provide regular reports to management.
* Risk Assessment & Incident Investigation
* Investigate industrial accidents, injuries, and occupational diseases to determine causes and preventive measures.
* Compile, analyze, and interpret statistical data related to occupational illnesses and accidents.
* Review plans and specifications for new machinery or equipment to ensure EHSS requirements are met.
* Inspect facilities, machinery, and safety equipment to identify hazards and ensure compliance.
* Apply root cause analysis (RCA), Risk matrix and Job Safety Analysis (JSA) methodologies.
* Environmental & Health Monitoring & General Safety
* Coordinate collection and analysis of samples (dust, gases, vapors, and other toxic materials).
* Test workplaces for health hazards such as chemicals, biological hazards, noise, electrical hazards, and temperature.
* Recommend corrective measures based on environmental contaminant analyses.
* Support industrial Hygiene programs and exposure assessments.
* Work environments include Research and Development, Electric Vehicle (EV) Battery, general industry, and capital project management.
* Training & Communication
* Develop and deliver training on security, environmental, health and safety laws, hazard monitoring, and proper use of safety equipment.
* Interpret health and safety regulations for managers, inspectors, and other stakeholders.
* Promote a culture of safety and compliance across all facilities.
* Assist with emergency preparedness and response planning.
* Security Management
* Assist with administration of the Safety and Security Council and IT network security coordination.
* Support facility security programs including access control and vendor management.
* Implement and manage capital projects related to facility and employee security, safety, health, and environment.
* Cross-Functional Collaboration
* Work closely with Legal, Engineering, and other departments on compliance and permitting.
* Serve as liaison with regulatory agencies and external auditors.
* Facilitate Management of Change operations which relate to EHSS
* Provie enterprise guidance and site-level partnership across multiple locations (MI and CA)

WHAT YOU WILL BRING TO THE ROLE

* Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience in developing and executing safety programs (including Emergency Action Plans), delivering safety training and standards, and conducting audits, reviews, and accident investigations.
* Up to 30% travel (domestic and international)
