Summary
Under limited supervision, provides security coverage to the Graylyn Conference Center property, conducts foot patrols and security checks, monitors area for unauthorized users, responds to incidents, reports hazards, and completes necessary reports during the third shift. Assists Conference Set Up Department with set-up of meeting and dining rooms as needed. THIS POSITION IS THE THIRD SHIFT.
Essential Functions:
Night watch operations: Performs foot and vehicle patrols of all buildings on the property.
Monitors activities in and around buildings, parking lots, and open fields.
Ensures guest and meeting rooms are locked and secure.
Detects any safety hazards or issues, documents them and reports promptly.
Performs clean up of bio-hazardous incidents, such as vomit or blood.
Completes written documentation of all injuries, damaged property, theft, vandalism, etc.
In the absence of the Manager on Duty, handles guest conflicts involving intoxication, unauthorized possession of alcohol, etc.
In the absence of a Transportation Assistant, may drive to the airport to pick up/ drop off a guest.
Enforces policies and procedures of the Conference Center.
Responsible for the evacuation of buildings in emergencies.
Performs all essential functions of a Set-Up Attendant.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
High School graduate with one year of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Security experience, particularly in a hospitality setting, is preferred.
Valid North Carolina driver's license and good driving record; must be insurable.
Skill in building security and lock procedures.
Skill in providing protection services.
Ability to write detailed and accurate reports.
Ability to detect criminal activity and communicate with Campus Police Officers.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Ability to use a computer for report writing.
Ability to understand and follow safety procedures and make logical decisions.
Ability to detect problems and report information to appropriate personnel.
Ability to operate equipment safely, such as vehicle wheelchair lifts and two-way radios.
Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports.
Ability to complete First Aid, CPR and Bloodborne Pathogen training.
Basic knowledge of Hazardous Materials.
HBV vaccine.
Ability to work flexible shifts including weekends and holidays.
Accountabilities:
Works under general supervision.
Work requires contact with staff and guests, as well as University Police staff.
Assists Graylyn Management with the prevention and detection of suspicious or criminal activity. (Ex. Thefts, Larcenies, Malicious Injury to Property).
Routinely surveys Graylyn locations to check for any safety, health or environmental concerns.
Completes operation reports and/or work orders to report any findings of a potential problem, notifies the proper Department; and offers suggestions on possible solutions for dealing with the particular situation.
Physical Requirements:
Medium work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally (with help) and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Physical activities include: balancing, stooping, reaching, standing, walking, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing and repetitive motion.
The worker is required to have visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned.

The employment procedure for the Police Trainee position is a multi-step process. An applicant must pass each step in sequential order to progress to the next step. An applicant who misses a scheduled appointment (unless a verified emergency) may be voluntarily withdrawn from any further consideration. Candidates must be in excellent health and have no conditions that would restrict their ability to safely perform these duties. No residency requirements presently exist to apply for the position of Police Officer. Upon acceptance to the police academy, all candidates must be residents of North Carolina. Qualified applicants will be scheduled periodically throughout the year for hiring consideration.
Recruit training is an intense 25-week program that demands high academic performance in areas such as law, human relations, first aid, firearms, driver training, defensive tactics, and modern law enforcement techniques. The academy also includes daily rigorous physical activity, weight training, aerobic activities, periodic assessments on the physical abilities course, etc. Police Trainees must successfully complete all topical areas and the State Comprehensive Examination. Sworn status is conferred upon successful completion of the Greensboro Police Department Academy and the State Examination administered by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission.
New officers then receive an additional 12 weeks of field training followed by assignment to one of four districts of the Patrol Bureau. Officers patrol a designated area of the City and are responsible for the prevention of crime, investigation of offenses, and apprehension of violators. The officer must also respond to automobile accidents, crimes in progress, and other emergencies and is required to exercise judgment and initiative in handling both routine and complex problems.

* Applicants selected to participate in the first phase of testing will be administered a reading comprehension test.
