Job Description
Employees in this class are responsible for ensuring compliance with Rockdale County planning, zoning, licensing and land use standards, codes, rules, and regulations. Code Enforcement Officer I is the entry-level classification. Work includes conducting field inspections and issuing citations as needed. Work is assigned by administrative superior in terms of department goals and objectives. Work is spot-checked and reviewed for accuracy, nature and propriety of final results.

Conducts field investigations to determine compliance of properties with county codes and issues notices of violation or citations for non-compliance.
Performs land use and zoning inspections under the codes.
Performs zoning permit inspections based on approved plans to ensure compliance with codes and regulations.
Maintains files of complaints and investigative findings.
Researches and reviews legal descriptions, plat restrictions and property ownership information.
Performs inspections regarding business license and alcohol license issues, secures licenses and merchandise and posts notices at establishments when required due to violations.
Rides streets/roads and reports to responsible department for clean-up.
Inspects reports of illegal dumpsites and outside trash storage around businesses and residential areas.
Testifies at hearings regarding notices of violations or citations issued to code violators.

Ability to operate modern office equipment.
Ability to meet the public and explain zoning and land use codes concisely, tactfully and impartially.
Ability to recognize deviations from code requirements or from established policies and procedures.
Ability to sit, stand, bend, walk crouch, crawl, and kneel.
Ability to occasionally lift heavy objects, climb ladders and use tools that require a moderate degree of dexterity.
Working Conditions
The employee generally works in an outdoor environment and may be exposed to hot, cold or inclement weather, rough terrain, dust, dirt, noise and machinery with moving parts. Some work is performed in an office environment with occasional appearances in a courtroom setting.
Minimum Qualifications
1) High School diploma or equivalent.
2) One (1) year experience in public works, planning and zoning, code enforcement or a related field involving considerable public/customer contact.
3) OR have a combination of education, training and work experience that is equivalent to #1 and #2 above that provides the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities for this job.
4) Valid State of Georgia driver's license.

Job Summary
As a sworn Peace Officer, this position creates and maintains a safe and secure environment for community members to engage in pursuit of for higher education, visitation of guests, and security of campus properties. This position performs all duties expected of a sworn police officer in performance of a full range of public safety enforcement, security, and campus services. This position is a designated position of trust and is typically a direct report to a Division Sergeant or Lieutenant.
