Makes internal and external rounds when on the second (4:00 pm to 12:00 pm) indicated by the security log list. Rounds shall be made on a varying schedule, with no more than one hour between rounds. Each round consists of a 40-50-minute tour and a 10-15-minute break at most. Then, the next tour starts. Checks all areas thoroughly and records findings in the security log and/or House log book as necessary. Reports any critical information to the Director of Security and the CEO as needed. Monitors newspaper, AM radio/weather radio/TV for any potential risks to MJ House, its residents, employees, and visitors at various times while on duty. Reports all necessary information to CEO, Department Managers, and Supervisors via phone/e-mail/2-way radio as needed. Briefs relief Security Officer at shift change. This armed position is under the direct supervision of the Manager for assigned high profile site and performs a variety of security-related duties. In this position, you will observe and report activities and incidents at assigned locations, providing for the security and safety of client property, visitors, and personnel. As an armed officer, you may respond to unusual or emergency situations using appropriate escalation of force level up to and including armed response as dictated by the situation and protocol. Additionally, you will assist in preserving order and may act to enforce regulations and directives for the site pertaining to personnel, visitors, and premises; control access to client site and facility through the admittance process; responsive in all situations; monitors entrances and exits and acts to prevent unapproved or unlawful entry. Some assignments may patrol assigned site on foot or in vehicle, checks for unsafe conditions such as hazards, unlocked doors, and security violations; protects evidence or scenes of incident in the event of accidents, emergencies, or security investigations; prepares logs or reports as requested. Duties Include * Controls access to client site or facility through the admittance process; precludes unauthorized access to facilities, and the conversion, theft or intentional destruction of physical assets; assists visitors with a legitimate need to gain entry to the facility; screens visitors and client employees in an efficient manner in order to expedite their admittance to the site or facility. * Responds to unusual or emergency situations using the appropriate escalation of force level up to and including armed response following established protocol for the site and as dictated by the situation, by the company, and through required training and licensing; maintains proficiency in the use of all assigned protective equipment, restraint devices and weapons as required. * Provides an atmosphere in which all client employees and visitors know that the client responds to and cares about their needs; provides a courteous, respectful, and pleasant interaction with each client employee and visitor as perceived from their point of view; presents a good image of the client and its security department. * Communicates in a manner that is open, honest and responsive in all situations; provides information, to the extent authorized, regarding the site and surrounding area as requested by visitors. * Monitors entrances and exits; acts to prevent unapproved or unlawful entry; controls entrances, the movement of people and vehicles, and parking; operates a gate and examines vehicle contents; monitors remote entrances using closed circuit television; operates remote access devices; calmly directs persons who cause a disturbance to leave the property. * Patrols assigned site on foot or in vehicle; checks for unsafe conditions, hazards, unlocked doors, security violations, blocked ingress and egress, mechanical problems, and unauthorized persons; inspects buildings and grounds using appropriate equipment and protective gear. * Protects evidence or scene of incident in the event of accidents, emergencies, or security investigations; sets up barriers and signage, and provides direction or information to others. * Prepares logs or reports as required for site; writes or types reports or enters information in a computer using standard grammar; inspects security control logs and takes action as required. * Observes and reports incidents or suspicious activity to client representatives, company management, life/safety personnel or public safety authorities as appropriate for the circumstances and/or as required by the site. * Responds to incidents of fire, medical emergency, bomb threat, flooding, water discharge, elevator emergency, hazardous materials, inclement weather, and other incidents or conditions following procedures established for the site, by the company, and/or through training or certification. * Carries out specific tasks and duties of a similar nature and scope as required for the assigned site.

Security: Provides a safe and secure environment at all facilities. Makes security checks of facilities during non-operating hours. Controls patient and visitor traffic in Emergency Department. Responds to security breaches when detected or dispatched. Investigations: Investigates suspicious activities and takes appropriate action. Interviews complainants, victims, and witnesses. Conducts preliminary investigations. Provides appropriate assistance to law enforcement officers upon request. Completes reports. Professional Competency: Enforces applicable federal, state, and local laws as they relate to public safety. Responds to calls for service in accordance with established priorities. Operates patrol vehicles safely and in accordance with Public Safety policies and procedures. Controls pedestrian and vehicular traffic. Enforces parking regulations in accordance with hospital or facility policies and procedures. The incumbent may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS Education: High School Diploma or GED required. Experience: Public interactions work experience required. Work experience in related field preferred (law enforcement, military, or security management). Previous healthcare security experience preferred. Refer to the Life Support Training Policy for additional details. Licensure: Driver's License in applicable state required. CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) certification within 6 months of hire and maintained throughout employment required. Must complete Basic Security Officer Certification through the International Association of Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS) within 6 months of hire and maintained throughout employment required. Additional Skills/Requirements Required: Employees who are hired into a position that requires the employee to drive a vehicle on behalf of the corporation must possess a valid driver's license, be 21 years of age or older and have a Motor Vehicle records verification. Records must meet the criteria set forth in Vehicles - Company Owned/ Leased - NH-LD-RM-3. Driving records will be reviewed and vetted upon hire and must align with UVA Community Health standards. Satisfactorily completes all required organizational and departmental basic, field, and in-service training programs including the Corporate Public Safety Training Plan. Basic computer skills. Ability to successfully complete generic and department-specific skills validation and competency testing. Ability to accurately receive and transmit information by radio and telephone.
