Process Improvements: Identify areas for enhancement in safety procedures and share ideas with supervisors.

Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent
Valid Florida Driver's License or the ability to obtain one
Fluent in English with strong communication skills (written and verbal)
Completion of D-license training within 6 months of hire
Proficiency with strong Microsoft Office and willingness to learn proprietary systems
Must maintain composure and objectivity while in stressful, high-pressure situations
Preferred
Associate degree or higher
Experience in security, law enforcement, or military service
Bilingual - English and Spanish
First aid/CPR/AED certified
Physical Demands and Work Environment
Ability to lift, carry, move, push and pull equipment or boxes up to 40lbs
Ability to stand and walk for duration of shift

Introduction This is highly responsible work in developing and supervising security and safety programs and procedures for the Waste to Energy (WTE) Facility. Nature Of Work The employee in this class is responsible for tasks of more than average difficulty which include: developing and supervising security and safety programs and procedures; ensuring that operations and activities are in compliance with departmental, city, state, federal, and OSHA regulations; and providing security and safety training for all WTE employees. Under direction, employees will maintain hurricane, emergency response, process safety management, all plant safety program, risk management, and vulnerability assessment plans/information up to date. The employee must work closely with department managers, emergency coordination, police, fire and City Risk Management personnel. Considerable initiative and independent judgment are expected of this employee. Supervision oversite of employees on 24/7 shifts is required; therefore, the employee must be able to plan and schedule appropriately. Work is reviewed through conferences, reports submitted, and results achieved.
Examples of Duties
Responsible for directing a security program for the WTE facility; develops plans and procedures to ensure that the facility is protected against fire, theft, vandalism, sabotage, and other disruptive acts; oversees the maintenance of security systems and related logs; reviews recommendations from staff for improvements and presents to management as appropriate.
Develops, maintains and updates emergency response plans for such occurrences as hurricanes, hazardous materials spills/leaks, and acts of sabotage; maintains the facility safety manual up-to-date and ensures that employees have current copies.
Develops, maintains and updates policies and procedures for a safe working environment; stays abreast of all federal, state and local safety policies and regulations and ensures that department/facility policies are current and effective; inspects facilities, coordinates the immediate correction of unsafe conditions with department managers and follows-up to ensure corrections are made; coordinates the department's safety committee activities; investigates accidents in conjunction with City Safety Specialists; identifies needed training, prepares and conducts or coordinates; maintains safety training records, Material Safety Data Sheets, and inspection reports.
Performs related work as required.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Working knowledge of: Florida State Statutes; City Code; basic computer skills.
Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in business administration, safety management, criminal justice or a related field and three (3) years of experience in industrial safety, risk management, emergency coordination, or law enforcement; Or An equivalent combination of education (not less than possession of a high school diploma/GED), training and experience that would reasonably be expected to provide the job related competencies noted above.
Licenses or Certifications
Possession of: a valid Florida driver's license.
Preferred Certifications:
* Certified Hazard Control Manager, Certified Safety Professional, Associate Safety Professional or the equivalent
* Law Enforcement certification, certificate of completion of the State of Florida Class "D" unarmed SecurityGuard course or the ability to obtain within eighteen (18) months of employment.
* Membership in American Society of Industrial Security (ASIS) and attendance at meetings will be expected.
Examination
Evaluation of education and experience. Drug testing is included in all pre-employment processing.
Comments
