While practicing community oriented policing practices and principals the employee enforces Coastal Carolina University rules and regulations, local, state and federal laws and statutes for the preservation of peace and protection of life and property while focused on problem solving. Completes proper departmental forms, performs follow-up investigations to include developing and using informants to prosecute criminal activity. Provides exceptional customer service to all constituents, including but not limited to, faculty, staff, students, visitors and the community at large.
* Police Officers are the first line of defense for all faculty / staff / students / visitors on campus. Police Officers are to respond to emergencies in a safe manner and as quickly and as possible while exercising due care for everyone. Officers are expected to act quickly to protect life and stop persons causing harm to others.
* Develops partnerships with law enforcement and the community through community-oriented policing practices. Plans, directs, and coordinates law enforcement activities and programs to accomplish these partnerships. Provides exceptional customer service to all constituents, including but not limited to, faculty, staff, students, visitors and the community at large.

General
Must be 21 years of age by date of hire.
Must have a valid South Carolina driver's license and the ability to operate all equipment in the campus safety vehicle.
Criminal background check required for hire.
Education
High School Diploma or G.E.D equivalent.
Training and Experience
Minimum of one year of experience in college security, contractual security, police, corrections, fire safety, EMS, and military required.
Campus Safety Officers will be required to complete, pass and maintain training and certification (where applicable) in the following areas:
SLED Primary Basic and Plus courses
Converse Campus Safety courses as assigned
ASP Baton certification
NARCAN Administration certification
Pepper Spray training and certification.
First Aid Response training
Tourniquet Use training
CPR training and certification
Firearms training and qualification
Driving and Vehicle Stop training
Operating knowledge of and experience with computer and peripherals including hand held radios, body cameras, surveillance cameras, computer operating systems (Microsoft Word, Excel), telephones, etc. required within three (3) months of hire.
Physical Demands
Must be able to successfully perform the essential functions of this job including:
Regular walking and standing for extended periods of time
Occasional climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, pushing as necessary
Frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally more with assistance
Ability to intervene in physical altercations or physically restrain people
Exposure to outdoor weather conditions
Ordinarily working in environments with normal noise levels

Security Responsibilities:
Promoting and guarding the community property and assets against fire, theft, vandalism and illegal entry by unauthorized persons while meeting and/or exceeding service standards.
Conducts safety and security inspections of all community property to include common areas, resident corridors, parking areas and perimeter access.
Patrols community property to prevent and discover activity in violation of criminal, fire or safety codes.
Watches for and reports irregularities such as fire hazards, leaking water pipes and security doors left unsecured.
Investigates and reports all acts of unlawful or safety hazards that would endanger persons or property.
Investigates all incidents and suspicious occurrences, filing incident report appropriately.
Responds to all security calls and complaints, taking necessary action and handling on-scene emergency situations until relieved by a Supervisor.
Inspects and reports all dangerous conditions and any damaged or defective equipment, machinery and property.
Secures and unlocks areas and buildings in accordance with policy and community expectation.
Assist in emergency response procedures as per community policy.
May be required to drive the community vehicle if necessary.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
High School diploma or Equivalent.
State Security Officer License.
One year job related experience preferred.
Ability to communicate effectively speaking the primary language of the residents.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
Basic computer skills required.
Must demonstrate an interest in working with a senior population.
Interacts with guests, residents and staff in a courteous and friendly manner.
Works both outdoors and indoors all year.
