GENERAL PURPOSE: The primary purpose of a Loss Prevention and Safety Associate, (LPA), is to protect the associates and assets of Ross. The LPA should proactively strive to support a Safety-first Culture, by enforcing and maintaining the company's established processes for facility safety and security and prevention of accidents and injuries. The LPA shall conduct safety audits and monitor for fire hazards. The LPA shall proactively identify and urgently resolve safety matters affecting associate safety. The LPA must respond to Critical Incidents, assess the situation, and make First Responder decisions. The LPA shall maintain post and monitor the assigned area of responsibility, conduct patrols, security audits, and utilize tools, technology, and processes for impacting shrink. The LPA shall promote prevention through awareness and work to mitigate shrink by discovery, investigation, and resolution of theft. The LPA must exemplify good judgment and strong decision-making skills with regards to managing inbound traffic and driver relations at the guard shack and associate, visitor, vendor, and contractor relations in our front lobbies. During times of Pandemic, the LPA is responsible for health screening and making subsequent decisions on entry and secondary screening. Loss Prevention Associates are expected to maintain confidentiality in respecting employees' privacy within the company guidelines and procedures. The LPA should contribute to positive company and department morale by participating in a strong and proactive team effort in supporting the company's goals. The Associate must be able to effectively understand and communicate goals, objectives, and accomplishments to Peers and Supervisors, effectively ask appropriate questions or express concerns on job-related labor issues to their Supervisor and/or the DC Loss Prevention Manager. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Maintain Safe Environments Conduct Code 50 Screening process for all associates, visitors, contractors, and vendors. Administer and provision access control in accordance with LP SOP and visitor management processes for all Associates, New Hires, Visitors, Vendors, and Contractors. Perform Guard Shack operations to include trailer check-in and out and ensure proper procedures are adhered to in order to maintain security of merchandise and Ross sites. Maintain physical security and control of the entire site to include the trailer yard, perimeter of building(s), and parking lots in accordance to Ross Policy and Procedure. Conduct Security audits, identify security concerns, and communicate deficiencies. Identify, report investigative leads from direct observations and audits. Assist with resolving investigative matters with associate theft, work-place violence, and other general incidents Developing Teams and Partnerships Work with DC Departments to address security and safety violations and incidents. Effective communication on incidents and investigations through various communication channels with appropriate stakeholders. Promote team-oriented environment to resolve conflict situations. Safety and Security Preparedness and Response Perform assigned duties during emergency situations as directed by the Emergency Preparedness Manual. Interfacing with Police and Fire officials during emergency situations. Respond and assist the LP Sr. Agent/Supervisor with incidents to include communication and follow-up. Effective use of Ross's technology, data and analytics to proactively support the organization's goals. Responsibilities: * Perform security and resource protection services for an assigned project in accordance with all local, state and federal laws, INA policies and procedures and the site-specific standard operating procedures * Enforce standards of conduct and adherence to applicable laws and regulations within the assigned project * Conduct patrols of grounds, buildings and property as specified. * Control ingress/egress to specific locations * Apprehend and/or detain subjects within the jurisdiction limitations and in accordance with instructions and provisions of applicable laws and regulations * Respond to emergent situations based on site specific emergency response procedures * Maintain status charts, plotting of situations, telephone and radio communications, dispatching personnel and equipment to meet normal and emergency situations Qualifications: * High school diploma or GED is required * College degree in related field is preferred * Three (3) years of law enforcement experience as a sworn Police Officer or Military Police Officer or five (5) years experience in security or protective force services or any combination relevant experience and education is required * Ability to use deductive reasoning in processing information to ascertain facts regarding any and all situations * Successful completion of INA security training program in addition to site-specific required training is required * Valid driver's license from the state of residence and access to reliable transportation * Ability to pass INA's pre-employment background screening, including drug screen and criminal history check * Ability to walk, run and move over uneven terrain and/or pavement * May be exposed to all types of weather conditions * May be exposed to hazardous and/or dangerous situations You must select a location. Provides security coverage for Stevenson University facilities, conducts foot patrols and security checks of University buildings, monitors areas for unauthorized persons and vehicles, responds to incidents, reports hazards, assists with special events and crowd control and completes necessary reports. Education/Experience: High School graduate plus two years related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Police, firefighter, emergency medical technician ( EMT ), and security experience are preferred. Knowledge/Skills/Ability: Valid driver's license and good driving record; must be insurable. Skills in building security and lock procedures. Skills in providing protection services. Ability to write detailed and accurate reports. Ability to detect criminal activity and assist Baltimore County Police Officers with investigations. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to use a computer for report writing. Ability to understand and follow safety procedures and make logical decisions. Ability to detect problems and report information to appropriate personnel. Ability to operate equipment safely including two-way radios. Possess strong interpersonal skills which include courtesy, politeness. Ability to successfully interact with different cultures and personalities in a professional and tactful manner. Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports. Ability to successfully complete First Aid, CPR , AED , and blood borne pathogen training. Basic knowledge of hazardous materials. Ability to work flexible schedule, holidays, weekends, day and night shifts and overtime. Essential Functions: Patrols areas and reports suspicious activities. Monitors security systems and facility for unauthorized persons. Performs inspections and reports conditions that need to be repaired. Completes Incident reports for any unattended items. Completes reports and uses two-way radio to communicate with other members of the security staff. Works with faculty, staff, students and visitors. Provides information and directions when requested. Protects and safeguards Stevenson University students and employees from criminal and potentially dangerous situations. Protects University property from theft and vandalism. Builds rapport with students and employees, with the objective of providing safety and security while on either the Greenspring or Owings Mills campus. Issues parking citations for vehicles parked in violation of parking regulations. Performs other related duties as assigned. Assist with traffic patterns or flow on campus. Work the Gate House and Monitor all vehicle traffic entering the Campus. Checks all vehicles entering the campus for a valid Stevenson University hangtag. Security officers are required to work in adverse weather conditions. Logs name and driver's license number of any unregistered visitor or student, along with vehicle information. Issues written warnings or tickets to students who do not have a current hang tag on their vehicles. Writes required reports that coincide with warnings and tickets concerning student's unregistered vehicles. Perform foot patrols of all residential, academic, and multipurpose buildings on campus. Monitor activities in and around building parking lots and courtyard areas. Foot patrols may be conducted in adverse weather conditions. Prepare incident reports for any damaged property, vandalism, suspicious activity, criminal activity, open or propped doors, unsecured hazardous materials, found property, or assistance given to Residence Life staff members. Assists in prevention and detection of suspicious or criminal activity (e.g. thefts, larcenies, and malicious injury to property). Routinely surveys campus locations to check for any safety, health or environmental hazards. Completes operation reports and work orders for the repairs of University property. Notifies management personnel of any unusual occurrence during their tour of duty. Work special events and University functions where large crowds are in attendance. Perform other duties as assigned.
