What you'll do
* Prevent unauthorized personnel from entering the buildings or being on company property.
* Verify the identification and eligibility of all personnel entering a BCBSKS building.
* Escort unauthorized personnel out of the buildings and off company property.
* Stand by if requested when an employee is involuntarily terminated.
* Patrol parking lots to provide safety for employees, insured's, visitors and property.
* Check company buildings and property after regular work hours for security and possible maintenance problems.
* Enforce traffic regulations on company property.
* As applicable, notify city authorities of security problems.
* Assist emergency personnel (police, fire and ambulance).
* Notify relief personnel of occurrences that require follow-up.
* Escort employees to their vehicles as requested.
* Notify appropriate personnel of incoming calls.
* Notify appropriate maintenance department employees of heating/cooling/electrical issues.
* Ticket vehicles that are improperly parked or do not have company issued parking sticker displayed in the rear window.
* May be required to sit or stand for long periods, up to and including 100% of work shift.
* May be required to physically restrain and/or pursue unauthorized individuals, using force when necessary.
* May be required to work in inclement weather (i.e. severe weather, rain, snow, etc), extreme hot or cold, dusty, humid, slippery or windy conditions.
* Must be able to lift and carry a minimum of 30 lbs.
* Must have ability to lift, bend, stoop, squat and run.
What you need
* High school diploma or GED required. Criminal Justice degree preferred.
* Previous law enforcement experience is required preferably within the past 36 months. Must be a graduate of a certified law enforcement academy.
* Must maintain and show proficiency with a firearm annually for term of employment in accordance with current state law or must show proficiency within 6 months of employment. This will be accomplished through the employee's current agency, agency retired from, or a Blue Cross designated range master.
* Must provide own firearm that is acceptable by the BCBSKS Security supervisor.
* Ability to comprehend and operate a PC based security alarm system and surveillance camera system.
* Strong computer skills in order to operate effectively with company systems and programs.
* Certification in CPR is preferred. Employees hired into this position who are not certified will obtain certification through internal training.
* Valid driver's license required.

Must successfully complete and pass a psychological assessment sponsored by Stormont Vail Health prior to employment. On a contingent basis officers may work pending the outcome of their assessment but are not allowed to carry firearms.

What you will do
Enforces regulations, policies, and laws that contribute to the safety and security of patients, visitors, and employees of the medical center.
Performs routine security patrols in the Emergency Department lobby and the outside entrance to the Emergency Department, in order to prevent thefts, destruction of property, disorderly conduct, and other adverse incidents on SVH property.
Performs security related functions, including but not limited to report writing, CCTV monitoring, and patient assists.
Responds to escalating and combative patient and visitor situations as necessary in the front lobby of the Emergency Department.
Attends workshops, classes, and seminars to maintain their proficiency and assure a safe environment for patients, visitors, and employees.

About the Venue
This position is based at our Stormont Vail Events Center. The 80-acre site in the center of Topeka now known as the Stormont Vail Events Center has a long history of use for activities related to agriculture, farming, exhibitions, education and entertainment. Stormont Vail Events Center is a 10,000-seat multi-purpose arena built in 1987 in Topeka, Kansas. Landon Arena, named for Kansas' elder statesman, governor Alfred M. Landon (1887-1987) was built 1987.
Responsibilities
Monitors and operates closed circuit surveillance, access control and fire alarm systems.
Vets all visitors/contractors, verifies appropriate credentials and prevents unauthorized access to the premises.
Patrols all properties as required and ensures, in a friendly and professional manner, the security of employees, contracted building partners and visitors.
Detects and resolves immediate safety and criminal issues; responds to the scene of an incident and acts as an emergency first responder if required.
Acts as property first responder to alarms, medical calls, property damage, etc.
Maintains absolute confidentiality on sensitive issues.
Maintains accurate notes and log information as required; ensures that all pass-on information is communicated to the next shift.
Completes all activity logs, incident reports, repair forms and other documents in a clear, concise, and legible format in a timely, efficient manner.
Performs person and package/parcel screening according to policies and procedures.
Conducts detailed internal investigations into incidents and provides detailed, objective reports for each shift or incident.
Attends briefing and training sessions to ensure complete knowledge of policies and upcoming events.

Inspections include checking doors, windows, and gates. Must monitor people in buildings requiring authorization for being there and requiring those not authorized to leave. Maintain an awareness of route information such as building hours, fire and intrusion alarm status, and on-going maintenance problems. Stay knowledgeable of state fire codes, university safety guidelines, and policies governing university buildings.
Safeguards the university against hazards, safety problems, and property damage. Ensure appropriate illumination of buildings to include exits and stairwell lights. Inspect buildings with an eye toward utility conservation. Takes prompt action to eliminate immediate danger to life or property.
Responds, usually on foot, immediately to emergency situations. Assist in building evacuations, when needed. Assist in perimeter control, when necessary, which may involve exposure to extreme weather conditions. Reports life threatening conditions and/or property loss/damage to proper authorities. Provide assistance in accordance with training and common sense and/or stands by until help arrives.
Must work cooperatively with others providing a courteous, complete and efficient service. Must maintain proper care and control of department equipment and vehicles. Participate in and/or provide training as required. Scheduling Expectations
The scheduling parameters and expectations for a flex officer are different from those of an employee assigned to a fixed post. As a flex:
You will be trained at various posts and /or facilities based on operational need. While you may work at a specific post or location for several weeks due to need, this will not be a permanent assignment.
Your schedule (shifts, days off, hours per week, etc.) will vary based on operational need.
You will be assigned to, or offered the opportunity to accept, shifts as they become available due to staffing needs.
Some of your shifts will be scheduled in advance and posted with the new week's schedule. Sometimes you will be called with short notice and asked to come in to cover for someone who is unable to work their shift.
You are expected to work any shift for which you are scheduled in advance which falls within the availability described on this sheet. What you will do
