Under extraordinary circumstances, detain within legal limits and in accordance with written policy and procedure, any individuals reasonably suspected of damaging City or personal property or injuring others, for further investigation or arrest by local law enforcement agency.
Maintain order and use good judgment and discretion in handling unruly passengers or trespassing public.
Maintain an accurate daily log and write daily reports, incident reports, and non-employee injury reports.
Maintain law and order within the Downtown Parking Ramp, Transit Center and/or City Hall.
When assigned to the Transit Ramp, unlock and lock: lobby of Transit Center, staff vehicle parking gates and all assigned doors at the times prescribed in the post orders.
In emergency situations, assume leadership and provide direction to employees and public to take shelter/evacuate following established emergency action plans of the Downtown Parking Ramp or Transit System/City.
Monitor individuals for loitering. If person(s) are in the Downtown Parking Ramp, Transit Center or City Hall for longer than the allowable time limit, escort them off the premises and/or have them cited for loitering. Report those who are loitering to the Parking Supervisor.
The Transit Center patrols are weekday mornings and evenings Monday-Saturday. The City Hall patrols are weekday mornings and late afternoon to evening.
The Downtown Parking Ramp patrols are conducted 5 pm to 10 pm daily.
Other duties as assigned. This may include additional assignments to meet emergency situations or special-duty assignments.
When assigned to the Transit Center:
Be present and patrol on the transit concourse no less than five minutes before buses are scheduled to pull into the Transit Center, patrol the concourse during the transfer period and remain on the concourse no less than five minutes after the last bus has left the Transit Center.
After buses leave, patrol the rest of the facility including the stair towers, parking decks, elevator cars and lobbies and the complete surrounding area of the Transit Center.
Monitor the security cameras for the Transit Center and City Hall when not on foot patrol.
When assigned to City Hall:
Be present and patrol the parking decks of the Transit Center and North Street Stairwell, Skywalk, City Hall lobby as well as the rest of City Hall including the exterior.
When assigned to the Downtown Ramp:
Be present and patrol on The Ramp and the rest of the facility including the stair towers, parking decks, elevator cars and lobbies and the complete surrounding area of the Downtown Ramp.
Monitor the security cameras for the Downtown Ramp in the Main Office when not on foot patrol.
All guards on duty shall work collaboratively with each other and assist each other as required.

Lateral Entry Process
Applicants with at least one (1) year of full time law enforcement are eligible for an expediated lateral entry process.
The Chief of Police has discretion to select eligible applicants to participate in the expediated lateral entry process.
The expediated lateral entry process shall consist of the following events/actions:
A minimum of two (2) exercises from the assessment center.
Combined Police and Fire Commission and Chief of Police interview.
All top applicants and appointments are subject to the successful completion of a background investigation, psychological evaluation, physical fitness screening, hearing, vision evaluation, medical examination and drug test.
Based on the results of the process described above, the candidate may be certified by the Police and Fire Commission. Once certified, candidates are added to an unranked eligibility pool. A candidate remains eligible for eighteen (18) months from the date certified. The Chief of Police may appoint any candidate currently in the eligibility pool contingent upon successfully completing a background investigation, psychological evaluation, physical fitness screening, hearing, vision evaluation, medical examination and drug test.
Lateral Hire Recruitment Incentive
The Menomonee Falls Police Department offers a $10,000 Recruitment and Retention Incentive to lateral hires. This incentive will be paid as follows:

2026 SALARY:
The City of West Allis and the West Allis Professional Police Association have a current contract that began on January 1st, 2026, and will run through December 31st, 2029. The salary information below is provided from this contract and is effective the first full pay period following July 1st, 2026, when hiring is tentatively scheduled to occur.
The starting annual pay for Police Officers residing in the City of West Allis as of July 1st, 2026, is $65,884.06 and rises in five annual increments to $99,019.54. Prior law enforcement, military and/or 1 years of security experience is a plus; however, training and uniform will be provided to the right candidate.
You will help to prevent and deter crime through:
Performing both regular and random patrols of multiple premises
Reporting any security-related incidents, hazards or unusual occurrences
When necessary, performing control procedures
Operating emergency equipment
Documenting nightly operations and filing weekly reports
Investigating breaches of property

Physical and Mental Job Requirements:
Must have effective written and verbal communication skills and must be able to communicate clearly and quickly in cases of emergency.
A Security Officer must be able to read and interpret written information under a variety of circumstances.
A Security Officer must be able to drive a motor vehicle in the course of his/her duties if required.
A Security Officer must be able to detect and identify sounds relevant to fires, floods, alarm signals, and persons in distress against distracting sound background conditions (e.g., machinery, traffic noise, etc.)
A Security Officer must be able to: Walk, Run, Stand, Climb, Sit.
A Security Officer must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs. waist high, if required.
A Security Officer must be in good mental health and be able to make decisions instantly on the event of an emergency.
A Security Officer must meet the physical and mental requirements of the state(s) to be licensed by the state to perform SecurityGuard / Security Officer work. Must be able to obtain the status of license required for the position, either Armed or Unarmed.

Performs general law enforcement duties contributing to the prevention, suppression and detection of crime, protection of citizen's rights, welfare and property, and enforcement of ordinances and laws within the City of Waukesha and/or work with other law enforcement agencies and city departments.
The City of Waukesha Board of Police and Fire Commissioners is accepting applications for the position of Patrol Officer/Recruit. Lateral transfers accepted per the Waukesha Professional Police Association (WPPA) Labor Agreement(Article 20.01(B)) pertaining to pay and vacation accrual. Attendance/Completion of Police Recruit Academy is not a requirement to apply. Specific Accountabilities:

2. Patrol and police assigned areas on foot, in squad cars or other police vehicles.
3. Utilize communication equipment to report in, call for assistance, receive calls in both emergency or non-emergency situations, etc.
4. Conduct investigations of auto or other accidents, complaints, domestic disputes, crimes against persons or property, missing persons, or other such investigations as assigned.
5. Render first aid at accidents.
6. Serve official notices and summons upon individuals issued by the court or other competent authority and make arrests.
7. Appear as a witness and give testimony at hearings and court trials when associated to the official duties of police officer on behalf of the City.
8. Perform other general duties for the purpose of law enforcement e.g., writing and filing of reports, ticketing for violations, directing traffic, crowd control, etc.
9. File reports, make checks of incarcerated persons in department lock-up and perform other related assignments as prescribed.
10. Operate police vehicles and other department equipment.
11. May assist other department personnel as directed with investigations, interrogations, apprehensions in unusual or emergency situations.
The Police and Fire Commission requires that Police Officers be certified by the State of Wisconsin Law Enforcement Standards Board or have a minimum of 40 credits from an accredited university, college or technical school prior to the start of the recruit academy for non-certified applicants (60 college credits required for certified/certifiable applicants). . Attendance/Completion of Police Recruit Academy is not a requirement to apply. Further, they require that Police Officers be U.S. citizens, be 20 years of age or older as of hire date, possess a valid Wisconsin Drivers License, and have no felony convictions.

Qualifications

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Receives, books, and releases inmates which includes: fingerprints, photographs, searches, and inventories and secures personal belongings; records data and runs checks, completes required screens, assigns and escorts inmates to cells or similar area; issues uniforms, bedding, personal products, and other supplies; ensures proper housing placement of inmates for safety and security within the facility; and releases inmates upon posting of bail, signing of signature bond, direction of an appropriate authority, or for work release purposes.
Maintains jail safety and security. Monitors and operates all equipment and alarms located in the jail control center.
Controls all access to the jail and maintains jail keys. Prevents unauthorized persons from entering or leaving the facilities.
Interprets and complies with all bond conditions and commitment orders and Judgments of Convictions. Receives and records fines and bail/bond transactions.
Maintains communication within and between shifts and keeps jailers, sergeants, and management informed of any problems, complaints, or infractions.

Provides for medical, mental or other attention necessary for the inmates' welfare, according to established policies and procedures.
Complies with all procedures and schedules for serving meals, linen exchange, inmate personal hygiene, cleaning and maintenance, incoming and outgoing mail, jail inspections, and prisoner requests.
Positively identifies and directs all visitors. Provides and supervises prisoner access to family, friends, clergy and other religious service providers, educational service providers, recreational service providers, attorneys, and probation and parole personnel.
Maintains Huber inmate compliance with Huber laws, rules and policies by performing the following duties: checks in and checks out Huber inmates, verifies employment, conducts job site and home visits, conducts random drug and alcohol testing, and deposits Huber funds.
Coordinates, transports, or escort inmates to and from facilities, courts and medical/mental treatment facilities.
Answers or properly refers all inquiries concerning prisoner and jail matters.
Appears in court and testifies as a witness as required.
Performs intoximeter and preliminary breath tests (PBT), takes DNA mouth swabs, and collects urinalysis samples when necessary.
Collects and issues receipts for bail bonds, fine payments, and canteen accounts.
