General Information:
The Department of Public Safety and Police at James Madison University is accepting applications for a full-time Patrol Officer.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Duties and responsibilities are as follows: patrolling university property, buildings, warehouses, storage areas and grounds on foot or in a vehicle to enforce laws and regulations; prevent crime; investigate/control disturbances and protect life and property. Other duties also include controlling crowds, traffic, parking and pedestrians; issuing tickets/citations to traffic violators; reporting traffic accidents and conducting accident investigations.
The successful candidate will respond to emergencies and requests for assistance; administer aid; investigate suspicious persons or unusual events; prepare and update a variety of records and reports; conduct initial investigations; secure evidence and apprehend, detain and arrest suspects. The successful candidate may also serve legal papers as required; testify in court and at administrative hearings; provide escort to students, staff, visitors, dignitaries and persons transporting money; provide information and give directions to employees, clients and visitors; identify hazards which may endanger public safety and operate a variety of communication and police equipment. The successful candidate will be required to use cameras, fingerprint equipment, mobile data terminals and in-car video systems.

Required:
VA DCJS police certification and NCIC/VICIN B level required.
Demonstrated working knowledge of the principles, practices, procedures and techniques of law enforcement and applicable laws and regulations.
Demonstrated skills in the use of police equipment relevant to the job and in the use of carried weapons.
Demonstrated ability to apply and interpret laws, rules and regulations; to perform investigations and to effectively communicate both orally and in writing.
Valid Virginia driver's license or ability to obtain before employment.
Ability to work rotating 12-hour shifts, nights, weekends, holidays and required overtime.
Additional Posting Information:
Employees permanently assigned to night shift qualify for shift differential pay in addition to their base salary.

Duties and responsibilities are as follows: patrolling university property, buildings, warehouses, storage areas and grounds on foot or in a vehicle to enforce laws and regulations; prevent crime; investigate/control disturbances and protect life and property. This position is responsible for public safety, law enforcement, crime prevention, traffic control and accident investigation. Position requires HS diploma/GED, excellent verbal and written communication skills, customer service and the ability to analyze situations and adopt an effective course of action through thoughtful decision making. Successful candidates will possess the desire to solve problems by developing collaborative relationships with members of the community.
The hiring process can take approximately eight weeks and requires successful completion of employment application, personal history statement, written test, interview, background investigation, psychological evaluation and pre-employment physical. This position will be filled to start in June 2026, and begin the basic law enforcement academy in July 2026.

A written test is scheduled for Tuesday, March 3rd at 6:00pm at the Staunton City Hall School Board meeting room, 116 W. Beverley St., second floor, Staunton, VA 24401. Doors open at 5:30pm. Access City Hall through the Police Department entrance. Each candidate must present their driver's license as part of the entry process as well. The completed application serves as a reservation to take the test.

JMU Parking and Transit Services is seeking students for part-time employment in its enforcement and special events programs. Student employees are expected to work a minimum of 8 hours per week but may work a maximum of 20 hours per week if they choose.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Patrol campus and issue citations to vehicles parked in violation of JMUs parking regulations.
- Participate in parking operations for campus special events.
- Assist visitors with directions and general campus information.
Qualifications:
- Comfortable interacting with the public in a professional and courteous manner.
- Capable of working efficiently without direct supervision.
- Able to work outdoors, on foot, in a variety of weather conditions.
- Flexibility to work alone, or to divide responsibilities with a partner or team.
Additional Posting Information:
- Students set their own schedule in 2-hour increments, with the exception of occasional mandatory special events.
- As a condition of employment, students are expected to return to campus early to assist in move-in operations at the beginning of the academic year and to remain on campus at the end of the year to work move-out and graduation. Special arrangements are made for students living on campus to arrive early and remain after exams.
- Regular hours are available from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM, Monday- Thursday, 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM Friday, 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM Saturday.

Charlottesville-Albemarle Airport Authority is accepting applications for full-time Public Safety Officers. We invite applications for the position of Police Officer Recruit. Virginia DCJS certification is NOT required at the time of application. Recruits, under instructional supervision, participate in a formal academy training to successfully complete the Virginia state certified police officer training at the Central Shenandoah Criminal Justice Training Academy. The Academy provides recruits with classroom training, physical fitness, and simulation training. Out-of-state certified applicants may be eligible for DCJS lateral or re-certification processes, as determined by DCJS and department policy.
After successful completion of the police academy and Virginia certified police officer training, Recruits will be sworn in and assume the duties of a Public Safety Officer and will begin a probationary period which includes on-the-job field training.
This position is also an aircraft rescue firefighter (ARFF). Fire and rescue training is provided and upon successful completion - an annual salary increase of $5,200 will be received. Experience in fire/rescue is a plus but not required.
The final candidate will be required to undergo health/drug screening, a psychological exam and a comprehensive background investigation. Applicants must be at least 20 years of age at time of the application and 21 years of age by police academy graduation. Schedules include weekdays, weekends, overnight shifts and holidays.
Salary range: $56,210 - $60,840. Salary is commensurate with certifications and experience.
