Responsibilities:
Serves as a critical component of hospital and healthcare security by protecting patients, staff, visitors, and critical assets.
Deploys a highly trained Security Working Canine (SWC) to assist with detection, deterrence, and emergency response activities.
Performs all standard duties of a Safety/Security Officer II while assuming full responsibility for the care, training, and deployment of the assigned SWC, in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.
Ensures safe and effective canine operations within sensitive medical environments, respecting patient privacy and regulatory standards.
Maintains a secure atmosphere conducive to patient care, going beyond traditional security roles to support a healing and safe environment.
Demonstrates advanced knowledge and experience in healthcare security protocols and emergency response procedures.
Applies professional canine handling skills in high-stress, dynamic clinical settings.
Understands and navigates the unique challenges of hospital and clinical environments, including behavioral health and high-traffic public areas.
Collaborates with clinical staff and multidisciplinary teams to provide coordinated, effective safety support.
Qualifications:
Education:
High School diploma or equivalent required.
Satisfactorily complete an LHS approved SWC Handler Academy.
Associate's degree/college level coursework in professionally related fields such as criminal justice, social work, psychology, or any social science preferred.
The education requirements for DPSST certification may be different from Legacy's education requirements for this job.
Experience:
Minimum two years prior Corrections, Military, First Responder (law enforcement, fire services, EMS), or comparable Security experience; OR, one year of Legacy Health Officer experience.
2 years of professional SWC. Handling experience preferred.
Minimum two years' experience with heavy public contact and an emphasis on customer service required and de-escalation training preferred.
Proficiency with Microsoft office applications.

The Department of Public Safety (DPS) OHSU Police Officer is responsible for the safety and security of the OHSU community, including all OHSU members, patients, and visitors, as well as all OHSU resources, facilities, and property within the Officer's assigned area(s) of responsibility. The OHSU Police Officer may carry out these duties under the direct supervision of the shift Operations Lieutenant, shift Sergeant, or other DPS management, but will also be capable of effectively carrying out these responsibilities with minimal or no direct supervision, when necessary.
The University Police Officer is trained in accordance with applicable DPSST (Department of Public Safety Standards & Training) requirements, applicable state law, and OHSU Public Safety departmental policy to exercise the authorities of a police officer.

Ensure a safe environment for the entire OHSU community by responding to and/or investigating the following:
Calls for assistance, reported or observed crimes, alarm activations, fires, hazardous materials, and other situations as appropriate, when dispatched, or when directed by a supervisor.
Observe conditions that could negatively impact the University's operations, including environmental hazards, maintenance problems, unsafe conditions, etc.
Take all reasonable actions to prevent injury, damage, or loss due to emergency or other situations until the appropriate responders arrive.
Act within the scope of his/her training and experience and call for assistance when confronted with situations beyond his/her training, experience, knowledge, or authority.
Show self-motivation and initiative in handling and dealing with emerging safety and security problems, including taking proactive actions to prevent problems whenever possible.
Protect the scene and evidence related to any actual or potential crime, injury, or significant violation of OHSU policy.
Perform proactive security checks of OHSU facilities, parking areas, grounds, and access routes to OHSU facilities.
Respond to and monitor helicopter landings/takeoffs and emergency responders as required.
Assist with uncooperative, disruptive, and/or dangerous persons as requested by staff or appropriate to the situation, including assisting with restraints, seclusion, and administration of medical care as directed by medical staff.
Respond to medical emergencies and campus injuries, render immediate first aid according to training and skills, and request appropriate assistance.
Be available for recall at any time to assist in any emergency that may be critical to the full-time operations of OHSU or in relief of other DPS staff.
Prepare timely, complete, accurate reports as appropriate and in accordance with all applicable policies, procedures, accepted practices, and requests from DPS management and/or law enforcement.
Observe, stop, detain, question, arrest, search, and/or transport persons suspected of criminal activity, and/or investigate suspected criminal activity related to OHSU, in accordance with applicable state law and OHSU guidelines.

Actively patrol/monitor area(s) of responsibility on foot, bicycle, in a vehicle, or via CCTV/DVMRE. Patrol/monitoring areas may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Inside and outside of OHSU facilities and buildings, both on and off campus
OHSU grounds, property, and parking areas, both on and off campus
Specific target areas
Other areas, as assigned
Issue citations as necessary and authorized to persons or vehicles for violations of University policies or applicable laws.
Contact individuals in or around OHSU facilities to enforce University policies, as necessary or directed.

Community Relations/Customer Service
Respond to non-emergency requests for assistance from all members of the OHSU community, including patients, staff, students, visitors, and others in/on, or in close proximity to, OHSU facilities and/or property. Requests may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Assisting motorists with jump starts, emergency fuel, lost or stolen vehicles, vehicle accidents, etc.
Assisting persons needing information about OHSU facilities, parking, access, directions, etc. Provides bilingual and cultural relevant support as need by customers.
Providing security assessments for facilities or personal safety concerns.
Escorting persons with specific safety concerns and/or as requested and appropriate.
Locking/Unlocking facilities upon authorized request or according to DPS procedure and practices.
Answering general information questions from the public, staff, or students concerning security regulations, building locations and campus activities.
Provide helpful community relations, customer service, and pro-active reporting functions with the DPS staff and customers throughout OHSU, including, but not limited to, the following:
Inform the appropriate department(s) of any problems noticed, changes in conditions, possible/actual interruptions of services, unsafe conditions, and any potential/actual unsafe condition.
Actively develop strong, productive working relationships with key individuals in all areas of the University by initiating non-crisis contacts whenever possible.

Required Qualifications
High School Diploma AND meet current DPSST minimum standards for employment as a Law Enforcement Officer (requirements are subject to change at the discretion of DPSST)

The primary roles are crime and violence prevention, and customer service.
Assisting with the functions of physical and personal security, and safety measures for clients.
Patrolling the work site on foot up to the full duration of the shift or as otherwise instructed to prevent and detect signs of intrusions and ensure security of all entry points of the property.

Essential Functions:

AUTOMATIC DISQUALIFIERS
The following standards have been adopted by the Hillsboro Police Department as AUTOMATIC DISQUALIFIERS from a police department hiring process.
Additional information related to the items listed below or otherwise discovered through subsequent investigation may also disqualify a candidate.
1. Operation of a Motor Vehicle
Ability to possess a valid Oregon Driver's License. Ability to drive safely. Ability
to control a motor vehicle at high speeds. Ability to operate a motor vehicle in all
types of weather conditions.
A. Receipt of two or more moving violations within three years prior to application
may be disqualifying depending on the nature of the violations. A moving
violation for which there is a factual finding of innocence shall not be included.
B. Involvement as a driver in two or more chargeable collisions within three
years prior to date of application shall be disqualifying.
C. Conviction of driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs within three
years prior to application shall be disqualifying.
D. Suspension of a driver's license once within the past three years shall be
disqualifying.
2. Integrity
Refusing to yield to temptation of bribes, gratuities, payoff, etc. Refusing to tolerate
unethical or illegal conduct on the part of other law enforcement personnel. Showing
strong moral character and integrity in dealing with the public. Being honest in
dealing with the public.
A. Any material misstatement of fact or significant admission or omission during
the application or background process shall be disqualifying.
3. Credibility as a Witness in a Court of Law
Ability to give testimony in a court of law without being subject to impeachment due
to his/her character for honesty or veracity or due to prior felony conviction.
A. Conviction of two or more misdemeanor offenses under Oregon Law as an
adult shall be disqualifying.
B. Conviction of any offense classified as a misdemeanor under Oregon Law while
employed as a Police Officer shall be disqualifying.
C. Commission of any act while employed as a Police Officer involving
untruthfulness, falsification of any official report or document, or theft shall be
disqualifying.
D. All male U.S. citizens and male aliens born after 1960 and residing in the United
States who are 18 through 25 years of age are REQUIRED to register with the
Selective Service. Failure to have registered is an automatic disqualifier.
4. Dependability
A. Missing any scheduled appointment during the hiring process without prior
permission shall be disqualifying.
B. Having been disciplined by any employer as an adult for abuse of leave, gross
insubordination, dereliction of duty or persistent failure to follow established
policies and regulations shall be disqualifying.
C. Having been involuntarily dismissed (for reasons other than lay-off) from two or

This position is covered under the provisions of an agreement between the City and the Vancouver Police Officers Guild.
Job Details
Essential Functions:
* Patrolling a designated area of the City;
* Responding to a variety of calls for service involving criminal and non-criminal situations and taking necessary police action;
* Preparing accurate reports;
* Conducting investigations, collecting evidence and interviewing witness/suspects;
* Testifying in Federal, State and local courts, and in administrative hearings;
* Working in partnerships with the community to solve problems;
* Developing public relation contact with civil groups, schools, businesses, neighborhood organizations and other law enforcement agencies;
* Representing the police department to other city service areas, elected officials, outside agencies, and to various citizen groups;
* Performing other duties required to accomplish the objectives of the position.
Qualifications
* United States citizenship
* 21 years of age
* High School Diploma or its equivalent
* Required Licenses and/or Certifications
* Valid driver's license
The City of Vancouver requires successful completion of a thorough background investigation, and post offer psychological and medical examination, including pre-employment drug screen and a polygraph examination.
