The Flex Officer position is crucial to our company's operational and financial success. The flex officer provides trained, competent support by working shifts which become open due to illness, call-offs, weather, vacation, or other causes. Scheduling Expectations
The scheduling parameters and expectations for a flex officer are different from those of an employee assigned to a fixed post. As a flex:
You will be trained at various posts and /or facilities based on operational need. While you may work at a specific post or location for several weeks due to need, this will not be a permanent assignment.
Your schedule (shifts, days off, hours per week, etc.) will vary based on operational need.
You will be assigned to, or offered the opportunity to accept, shifts as they become available due to staffing needs.
Some of your shifts will be scheduled in advance and posted with the new week's schedule. Sometimes you will be called with short notice and asked to come in to cover for someone who is unable to work their shift.
You are expected to work any shift for which you are scheduled in advance which falls within the availability described on this sheet. Description of test:
1. 1 Minute Sit-ups: Applicant starts by lying on their back, knees bent, heels flat on the floor, fingers laced and held behind their head. During the sit-up, the applicant in the up position must touch their elbows to their knees, then return until their shoulder blades touch the floor.
2. Pushups: Hands are placed slightly wider than shoulder width apart, with fingers pointed forward. Starting from the up position (elbows extended, only hands and feet touching the floor) the back must remain straight at all times. The applicant must lower their body to the floor until their chest touches the administrator's fist. The applicant then returns to the up position. This is one repetition.
3. Vertical Jump: Applicant jumps as high as possible and marks the highest point of their jump by touching a measuring stick. The applicant may only move one foot prior to the jump and must jump from both feet. The arms may thrust upward. Measurement is the total inches above the standard reach point.
4. 1.5 Mile Run: Applicant Runs or walks for a distance of 1.5 miles in 16 minutes 28 seconds or less.
5. 300 Meter Run: Applicant runs 300 meters in 71 seconds or less.

CMS Standards: The use of restraint or seclusion interventions must never act as a barrier to the provision of safe and appropriate care, treatment, or other interventions to meet the needs of the patient. CMS does not consider the use of weapons in the application of restraint as a safe or appropriate healthcare intervention. BHU Security staff who are Law Enforcement Officers may not carry weapons within the BHU. “Weapons” include, but are not limited to: pepper spray, mace, nightsticks, Tasers, cattle prods, stun guns, and firearms. The use of weapons is not considered a healthcare intervention and, if used, the incident will be handled as a law enforcement matter. Offenders should be turned over to local authorities.
Patrols and Rounding
Conduct regular rounds of interior and exterior BHU areas, checking for unsecured doors, equipment issues, and general safety.
Round in patient care areas to help ensure adherence to safety protocols, unit rules, and Johnson Memorial Health (JMH) policies.
Patrol parking areas, especially during shift changes, to support staff safety.
Document and report all findings and shift activity accurately.
Access Control and Screening
Secure and release doors during normal operations and emergency situations.
Assist with safe movement of patients, staff, and visitors during emergency events.
Perform physical security screenings to maintain a safe environment.
Support Services and Environmental Monitoring
Perform routine preventive maintenance observations, such as monitoring and testing alarms.
Monitor snow accumulation and notify Plant Operations management when necessary.
Suspicious Activity and Vehicle Monitoring
Investigate and report suspicious individuals, activities, and abandoned vehicles JMH Security Officers.
Verify identification when appropriate.
Respond to suspicious activity and work with JMH Security Officers when needed.
Escorts and Response
Provide safe escort services for patients, staff, and visitors.
Conduct foot patrols of JMH properties.
Respond promptly and professionally to all calls for service.
Incident Response and Documentation
Respond to and assist in investigations involving criminal activity or vehicle incidents on hospital property.
Maintain accurate and detailed reports, records, and activity logs.
Policy Enforcement and Public Interaction
Enforce JMH rules and policies through professional interaction with patients, staff, and visitors.
Provide guidance and clear direction to others while maintaining professionalism.
Participate in Quality Improvement and Quality Assurance initiatives as directed.
Perform other related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: High School Diploma/GED is required. At least 1 year of relevant experience required. Current non-restricted Indiana Driver's License required. Crisis Intervention Training (CIT) to be obtained within 6 months of hire. Physical Security Professional (PSP), or Certified Protection Officer (CPO) certification preferred. Previous medical or hospital experience preferred.
